Wirgin Edixa II

Those are looking good, Mike. How does it handle?

Ergonomically, this camera is wonderful, Phil. The controls are sensibly placed where you can operate them all with the fingertip of your right middle finger without letting go of the camera, the shutter-release is soft and short, and the shutter is silent. The viewfinder and rangefinder windows are a little small, but exceptionally bright. The film advance (double-stroke) feels insubstantial but it gets the job done. And the camera is small enough to fit easily into a jacket pocket, just slightly larger than an Olympus Trip 35. All in all, this camera, while maybe not the sharpest tool in my toolbox, is quite charming.

The Wirgins were the same as the Adox cameras. I had an Adox Adrette II with a 50mm uncoated Xenon and that was a fantastic camera. Beautiful tiny thing with all nickel plated hardware, controls and top/bottom plates. Scale focus only and eventually it became a parts camera as the shutter wasn't working well. Wirgin and Adox made some great cameras after WWII.

The Edixa was originally to be called the Edina, but Kodak felt that that was too close to their Retina name, and Wirgin was made to change it.
