I'm a relative newcomer to rangefinders, rediscovering the breed after a long absence. I've acquired a few in the last couple of months, and I'm starting to refine my ideas about desirable features. So far I've decided I want:

1:1 viewfinder with diopter adjustment, usable with glasses

40mm or 50mm lens

depth-of-field scale

strap lugs

built-in light metering

full manual exposure controls

What features do you want in the ideal rangefinder?

Chris

Yes! Wouldn't it be nice if Nikon made an RF out of the FM3a. Maybe they could make it for screw mount lenses. Better, maybe they could turn it over to Cosina (since Cosina makes their FM10) and let Cosina make an RF that would fall in a different nitch in their product line. Of course, it would probably be too close to R3a/R2a. WNG NC

Just to add to that... which one of the FSU RF's comes closest? I'm guessing that the Kiev 5 should be pretty close, but what about the Zorki's & Feds.

No FSU camera really meets the criteria if you include built-in metering.

I am with Rover in liking the idea of a Nikon RF based on the FM3a and you can add a digital back with full frame sensor. I would even settle for an FM3a with a digital back.
