It'll never happen... but if the photography gods happen to be listening, I'd love to get an R-D2 with:

1. Optional 1.0x or 0.7x viewfinder magnification (or whatever is necessary) to allow for 21mm or 25mm framelines (around the 35mm equivalence point with 1.53x crop).

2. 21, 25 (if applicable per option in #1), 28, 35, 50 and 75 (& corner dots for 90) framelines.

3. At least a 5 shot buffer, if not more, when shooting RAW+JPG

4. Instant (or near instant) on/wake-up from sleep

5. Faster access to review images (so I guess faster write/processing)

6. ISO100 or 50 even or faster shutter speeds (I love shooting wide in daylight)

7. Weaker low-pass filter

8. Less vignetting with various lenses

Things I don't want "improved":

1. Rewind lever - I love this

2. More megapixels at the expense of higher noise - I love how ISO800 and ISO1600 are so easy to work with as is

3. No more buttons, or arrow keys - what we've got is plenty, and the control scheme is quite nice as is. Well, maybe a way to have two user defined functions... (magnify and delete when reviewing for me)

4. More metering modes - I'm fine with what we've got. I know it, I know when to trust it (and I keep it at +.7 EV :D )

Things that would be nice but I don't care that much about:

1. More efficient, but lossless, compression of RAW files

2. Larger sensor (I'm perfectly fine with 1.53x to be honest)

3. Better battery life (it's not that hard to carry those extra small batteries as is)

Dream stuff (i.e., it'd be great, but I wouldn't be disappointed if it didn't change):

1. Longer rangefinder base/better viewfinder quality (this is a Bessa based camera after all)

2. Smaller, maybe to fit more the size of the film Bessas (but definitely not at the expense of the foldable screen. That was awesome).

Oh, and I think a street price, when new, of $1,800 would be very reasonable for all of this. Of course cheaper is better :D

None of this is to complain, I suppose... I love the current R-D1... just thinking if it were continuing and growing, how much more awesome it would be with these improvements...

Ah, one can dream I suppose...

Best regards,

-Jason

Just wishing for an R-D1 is wishful thinking but with the improvements you suggest... well, even when Hell freezes over I doubt we'll see such an R-Dx. :)

I'd settle for anything that I could mount the M lenses on, at less than 1000 euro.. and even that is insane money if you consider what a budget DSLR costs..

Crop factor, rewind lever or not, buffersize, megapixels, it's all moot in my book, good is good enough..

If ever happens it will be a Cosina-Voigtlander, not Epson. ( Bessa R5D ? )
And I'd like a smaller crop - 1,25-1,3x (fullframe seems impossible right now)
Being more realistic a 10Mp. 1.52x sensor (like current Nikon entry level DSLRs) would be fine too.
A 0,7x model reduces the effective rangefinder too much for my taste, I prefer to use external viewfinders for 15 to 25mm lenses, but others will think otherwise of course..
