Women's Anti-Trump Protest March

Seriously, thanks for posting, everyone. I missed our local one, just too tired and such, really. I'm kicking myself for it as the weather was decent and there were about 3 times the people they expected!

It's like Winogrand was there, seeing those great film shots. Seminal event. I hope others post up theirs from local marches. Steve, nice one there.

One the one hand, it's got to be great to be shooting in a situation where most of the subjects are happy to be caught by a strange photographer. But getting good stuff in crowds is always a challenge.

It's especially interesting since the subtext is a battle of populist visions. Very complex and unpredictable. Lots of strong stereotypes flying both ways, powered by deep grievances. Tender feelings far and wide. I grew up in the 60's and it's got that flavor plus a new edge. We are a long way from multiple cites on fire though.

I hope the music can step up to that 60s level, Dylan, Staples Family, James Brown :)

I know it's difficult to make good photos in such a crowded environment but you all managed to isolate the subject frame with attention. Well done, thanks again for giving us a view of such an event.

The London March was huge, and good humoured and a terrific counterpoint to the depressing day before.

Some great photos, I like the guy with the small sign and the first two photos in post #3 best, very captive.

PS: I really wish this thread will not escalate in a political argument, RFF is the one place I turned to, trying to get away from the political arguments in the last 18 months.
 
Yes, we should be able to talk about the photos as documentary / reportage photos; and not use the thread to express (and then counter-express !) personal political opinions.
 
I find interesting the body languages differences visible in the first two photo of the first post and the photo of the man with tiny sign about large hands :different behaviors well caught by the photographer.

Went out on Saturday with my newly acquired Nikon SP and 10.5cm/2.5 over one shoulder, and a Hexar rf with a 28 over the other, pretending I could do some reportage, knowing I really couldn't, but not caring much one way or the other.
Shots here, as photos, are no match for some of the prior postings, but I had fun anyway, and did manage to capture the general tenor of the well attended march and final gathering, for me, at least.
Was hoping to get these up here before the thread boiled over. Too late! Would have processed these last night but went to a movie instead.

This one would have been more effective had it been a video as the crowd behind him was full throatedly engaged in Orwell's "two minutes of hate". But, it will always resonate with me.

I am quite sure that the photos I took with the Hexar and the 28mm would have been better:) However, when I unloaded the camera I discovered it was loaded with E6 film. Oops. So those are off to be processed. Signage about "No free tampons=No Peace" on that roll.

Really did appreciate the quality of some of the earlier posted photos. I remain stylistically impoverished.
