So I received a phone call Friday informing me I won two roundtrip tickets to anywhere Midwest Airlines flies. (I entered a survey for the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City several months ago. My name was drawn from survey submissions and this was one of the big prizes.) There aren't any restrictions on the tickets, other than advance booking and blackout dates during the holidays. I can live with that. :)

Since we here on RFF are so good at spending other people's money, I thought I'd solicit opinions on how to spend my vacation! A list of the places Midwest Airlines flies can be found here on their website.

A few of the places the wife and I are considering include:
  • Baltimore
  • Boston
  • New York
  • San Diego
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • Toronto
  • Washington D.C.

Other options are certainly welcome. Neither of us have been to New York. From a photography perspective alone that would be fun. But I'm interested in going west too.

Any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks for the help! :D

Go to Quebec if you can fly out of the country (and can learn a little french), the town is an incredible place.

Never been to NY!? New York is a required experience for all, love it or hate it, you gotta do it. Everywhere else is small. San Francisco is nice too.

San Francisco is a great town for couples. My wife and I really enjoyed vacationing there.
I work in NYC. A great place to visit in the spring but right now it's freezing.

i say head to toronto in the spring for the next rff group meeting.

or better yet to montreal for the may 19th weekend extravaganza!!

As much as it pains me to write this, I'd advise either NY or SF, in that order. The other places aren't quite as interesting. And you won't need a passport. And there's RFF'ers everywhere. New York is especially photographer friendly: both photo ops and galleries/museums are everywhere.

Thanks for all the feedback so far. NY is pretty high on our list for many reasons, not the least of which is that it would be new for both of us. We've been to SF together and love that city. It seems to be do we go somewhere new, or somewhere where we have great memories....

Then it's NY: MOMA, ICP, etc.

NY is pretty impressive. I have been to all those places except Toronto.

DC is nice but not so photogenic. Seattle is photogenic in a similar manner to NY, but is less intense and offers more grime within reasonable reach. San Francisco is a pretty nice city, it you make it to the outskirts or down to the pier. Boston, not too interesting to me. Baltimore, even less interesting.

I'd choose NY if I had the chance - that place just has lots to offer if you have money for lots of cab rides and subways. I think that does it. The easy access to affordable transportation in NY makes it a reasonable choice because you won't have to use cabs all the time and you won't have to rent a car.

San Francisco has the most easily identified urban look.

Ah.. I missed Toronto. Thats a great city too!

I'd flip a coin! Have friends in toronto though so I'd probably go there! :p
