Wondering Monkey
Hey guys.
i was just wondering the market value today for a Bessa-R. I have a Mint Silver Bessa-R that has rarely been used (due to me using my other camera more often). And i was thinking of swapping it to a Epson RD-1.
what do you think the Bessa-R is worth?
i plan to keep all the lens i have and use a mount if i ever get a RD-1.
Thanks guys

$175 to $200? Mine has a terrible film wind-in, so maybe less. I have heard this is a common problem with the R.

KEH has several examples in the $250 range. I'm thinking of parting with mine, but it's just so handy and light walking around with a CV 35/2.5 (and a Canon 50/1.8 in the pocket). And you can't argue with the results. Mine has the smoothest wind-on of my 3 Bessas (R, T, R3A).

True. i've heard heaps of stories about the film wind-in with the R.
but i really cant afford to part with mine. It's just so smooth (since mine is still fairly new)
but since there's way too many stories of the R. (i've actually heard stories of the wind-in, of the shutter doors jamming and so on)
i'm trying to get a back up camera just incase. Maybe constantly servicing the camera would prevent these from happening

when you say wind on, is this the advance lever?

I've had my R since 2004. It's been through the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. It's been to the desert and Hawaii. It's been through a Chicago winter. It's spent some time in bars, and it's been used when I've been less than sober. It wasn't new when I bought it, and it's never been serviced. It's probably gotten 2 or 3 rolls a month since I've had it. Never had a single problem.

I paid $100 for a Bessa R (black with half case) that had film advance problems. Eddy Smolov fixed the problem.

You won't be swapping it for an R-1D... it is about 5x as much cash. About $200 if it is mint.
