Hi,

I'm redoing my website and am thinking of having a wordpress.com site. Can any one recommend any good themes to use? Or any wordpress based photography websites that I can have a look at?

As it says in the title - I'm not interested in blog sites!

Cheers
Simon

Yes, WordPress is by definition for blogging, but you can use it to build out a static page structure for photo galleries. I suggest finding a theme that looks the way you want and adding photo galleries via pages and a gallery plugin, rather than adding blog posts.

I just redid my site.

I use the photographer theme from organic themes now. http://www.organicthemes.com/theme/photographer-theme/

Nice theme. Not too complicated or flashy. Good support from the developers too.

You can see my site here: www.renderedinsilver.com

edit, also check out elegant themes, mint themes, themeforest, themetrust, themeshift, studio press, graph paper press, obox, etc

oh I see, i'm not sure I would recommend this approach, why not use something more appropriate to the task you're trying to do ?

I'm not sure what you mean, wordpress is a blogging platform

Strictly Wordpress is a content management system. But i do agree that it was first developped specifically for blogging purpose. It has changed though.

Regarding the topic, it's hard to say which theme you want to use. There are certainly a lot of themes out there. Pick one you want to use if you don't like to develop one on your own.

Wordpress is capable of far more than blogging, but you have to know php to really make it shine. I don't know php, so it does nothing for me, but for others like this ... http://davidduchemin.com/ ... it seems to work nicely.

I am playing with koken.me of late myself.

Yes, Wordpress began as a blogging platform but over the years has expanded into a tool that can do a full blown website. In the past I have used iWeb and Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver is way too complex for what you get in a finished product. iWeb is very limitied. Wordpress is the best for theme varieties and plug ins.

I did my website with a free wordpress theme and then used a plugin that I paid for for my galleries. I would also recommend a photo theme from a company called photocrati. I almost used one of their themes for about $75.

You can see my site at: www.frankdina.com (done on wordpress.org)

I have been doing my own websites since the late 90s and find wordpress to be the easiest and the most professional looking. I do however, recommend getting a book or tutorials such as lynda.com to get started.

Good luck.

I agree, but like the others mentioned, unless you know a little about development yourself it's going to be a lot of work to make it work the way you want to, unless you have great support from whomever is making the site for you

I like the customization, themes, and plug-ins of wordpress.org and I like the standard templates of cargo collective moreso than the ones from wordpress.com.

..but i'm no expert and haven't played around with wordpress.com enough to figure it out...there might be some wonderful wordpress.com websites out there but I just couldn't get it to work for me.
