A brief note to let you know about a project that's new to me: the Worldwide Photo Walk.

Apparently, it was created by a photographer, Scott Kelby, and its aim is to reunite local photographers and to help them see (and photograph) their hometown.

WWPW is coming on July 24th. My town is one of 900 cities in the world that will host a walk. That means, the local shutterbugs will get to know each other!! I already joined it... and here goes the information in case there is one somewhere near where you live, or in your own backyard.

I'm planning on going hybrid, or dual... with my D700 and one of my Leicas. :)

That's great Francisco. I'll be in one of the photo walks (there are two) to be held in my town. I am planning to go with only film. M + PlusX + 35/1.2
 
I attended my local walk last year. My wife and I were the only ones shooting film. I was not surprised to see the majority of the submissions were HDR blotches of ultra-saturated colors. They made Ken Rockwell look conservative by comparison.
 
I'm mostly interested on the social aspect of the event. Here, in my small place, I know only of two people who shoot at all (and both use MF film, one with Mamiyas and the other with Bronicas). Even if the attendees are all carrying digital P&S, it's nice to know there are others with the same interests... and, who knows, seeing my M4-2 may convince them of the goodness of film. ;)

How was your overall experience, DB? I guess the results were garish (not yours) but how about the personal aspect of it?

BTW, the walk will cover areas I've covered already in all my years of photographing DeKalb...
 
I enjoyed it, but I think if I were to do another one, it would be in another city- fresh eyes, fresh sights and all that. Prepare for a deluge of Scott Kelby emails after you register.
 
Thanks for the e-mail warning. I sensed it, so upon registering I unclicked the choice to receive information from the site... and also gave an e-mail address that has a very efficient spam filter. However, I guess I should expect all types of updates.

Who else can speak from experience about these walks?
 
Sounds interesting. I am checking locations in my area that have walks. An amazing number here in unexpected places.

Any RFFers in the Washington DC, Northern VA area going?
 
Well... we're ten snapshooters in DeKalb... and the walk is in about ten days. Let's see how many more add themselves to this local thing.

OTH, you could lead one yourself... ;)

Now, seriously... You must have had a good experience. The fact that you're going again means it must be good.
 
I did the first year, it was good fun. And yes the one picked from my group was an HDR. On the waiting list for this year. :(

i had/have nothing to do with the organizing.

it was an ok time. i am mostly a loner when shooting so it was a nice change of pace for me to shoot with others around.

of course, i am the only rf user and most of the others have no idea what a rf camera is...
 
I'm signed up for one at the Honolulu Zoo. I'll give my kids each a film camera to shoot with and will probably do the same. Maybe an old TLR or my Pentacon 6 TL for myself.
 
Did you take a digital RF, joe, or your film gear?

I'm a bit, say, concerned... I simply don't know what to take... but there's going to be a Leica, definitely. I simply don't know whether to take my D700 or just leave it home.
 
I would take something small enough to allow room for a few extra bottles of water, a few more bandanas and maybe an extra hat.
It's supposed to be wicked hot near the end of the week around these parts - indeed hotter in DeKalb than lakeside so be careful out there.
 
Went on my first Photo Walk today in Fredericksburg, VA. As far as I could tell, I was the only one with a film camera of any kind, much less a rangefinder. After the walk, many of us met at a small local cafe (started life about 1833 as a church).

One of the gentlemen who sat at my table was not new to folders, admitting to having some, including a Kodak Retinette, and about 40 cameras total. I felt like telling him he should join RFF and learn how to grow. :D

The other gentleman was so fascinated by the four folders I had that he actually lined them up on the table and took a photo of them. I had my 6x9 Zeiss Ikon folder, my Weltini, another 6x6 Welta folder, and a 9x12 RF folder. I also had my XA and my smalll Sony P&S digital.

It was interesting to meet so many people. At least 35-40 showed up. Two local camera clubs I only recently found out about were also represented. Who knew? As I said, everyone but me had huge digitals with huge lenses.

Anyway, interesting. Thanks Francisco for letting us know about this. Now I have some chemicals to mix and film to develop.
 
I had expected some people who went on a photowalk might have posed some photos. Two of mine are below. Sorry, they are scanned with the Linux version of software for my Epson 4870, and I don't know how to use GIMP yet in order to do even the most basic of post processing.

Anyway, the film was Adox 100 ISO, cut down to 9x12, and processed in Rodinal 1:100 stand for 60 minutes. I don't think I like the results as much as I expected. I'm not sure I will try stand again until I have had a chance to develop in Rodinal normally, and maybe in pyro and even D-76.

With Francisco's presumed agreement, everyone else feel free to post, and I hope with better examples.

I am curious if this is normal for this type of film and stand development, especially the building/sky separation in the second?

I shot using the M8+35/1.2 CV, and a Hasselblad with 80mm lens. It was fun, but my shots are mostly portraits.
 
I have uploaded my Photo Walk results in Flickr. As for the rest (done with my Leica M6TTL), I have to get them done today at the lab (they're in C-41 film).

BTW, it's good to see there were some RFFers going to these walks. I met a few people with fancy digital gear and some with some unfancy stuff. I was the only one with a film camera (though I did take my digital behemoth), and my camera animated our conversation at a local sports bar later.

Feel free to post shots here or (better yet) in Ash's thread! :)
