...on whether the photo of said M9 and coffee were taken with another M9 and an extremely expensive optic - say, a Noctilux...

I sspect that if I dropped my M2 into the coffee, quickly fished it out, shook it, and wiped it off with my shirt tail I could continue to finish the roll. Do that with your M9 and you'll still be crying at Christmas. I buy my mugs at Goodwill so they look good with my Leicas.

I don't think so, Al. The M9 likely won't take film -- not that a Prius-like hybrid wouldn't find some supporters here.

Don't let the M9 get too close to the hot coffee. The heat will increase the sensor's noise level. In addition to the usual IR/UVa filter, you should also protect it with a caffeine filter.

Of course it will! Everyone should get one to look good at a coffee shop... If you guys need some funds to cheap in a M9 I will gladly buy your old, unstylish and uncool M8s, MPs, M2s, M4s and M6s for dirt cheap. I love new releases from Leica :=)

However, to get back on topic, I think the M9 and M8 would look just fine IN a pot of really hot coffee😀
