I'm not confused, right now I'm happy with my gear.
Perhaps the key is to work more on worrying about gear less. It's easy to obsess over gadgets and new toys, but it feels good to reign in that obsession.
discipline and will power are highly overrated...

If I was in a position to be able to afford all the camera gear I wanted I'd need an electrified perimeter fence around my house!
to keep others out or you in...?

maybe confused was the wrong word...i know what i want...i just can't afford it all.
and 'all' isn't alot...2 more cameras and a few more lenses...
maybe not being able to 'have it all' is a bitter pill for me.

With the way electricity prices are going, a guard dog might be cheaper! If I was in a position to be able to afford all the camera gear I wanted I'd need an electrified perimeter fence around my house!

Wouldn't confuse me at all. 99% of the cameras out there hold no interest for me. There are a few things I would buy, like a couple more lenses for my Hasselblad, and a 90mm for my Leicas and maybe a digital Leica, but that wouldn't confuse me because I know I'd use the stuff every day.
chris, you can never have a digital leica...you could never call yourself a real man again...

I'd get confused Joe. I will be shooting in October with two lenses. The problem is that I have 3 lenses, and cannot decide which 2 to use!

Yes!!!! I will vouch for it, I have way too much stuff and get stressed when I don't use then I can't find it etc. I plan to simplify.

Photographer?
I'm such an awesome photographer that I would obviously exceed the abilities of all of the gear that I could buy.

It depends. I'm not the type that likes to have too many things. However, I would buy some very expensive lenses and a few digital Leicas. Maybe a medium format digital.

Does a huge loft with beautiful warn wooden floors and tons of natural lighting count as gear? If I does I'd be happy with that plus a nice little M9 28/50/75 system and one of those 24x20 Polaroid cameras

Too late.
Although only being able to afford some film now (and the occasional $10 junk store find) I already have far too many cameras and far too little talent or dedication to the craft.
I just like old mechanical cameras.
