Hello,
I have the opportunity to purchase a used Zeiss Ikon ZM "Limited Edition" model. I know these were the earliest production ZI's and I've heard that like many early camera models, they may not be as reliable as the later models. The camera shop doesn't have a service department, so I'd likely have to send it off for service if anything happens. The camera seems to be working fine now. My questions:
1. Has anyone had repairs done on a ZI out of warranty? If so, where?
2. Would you take a chance on this camera?

I should say that the price is about $900 after taxes, which is a major investment for me.

Thanks for your input.

Joe

If it's a great price, yes. If not so great, why take a chance? Get one elsewhere.

Hell yeah, that's not a bad price. If it's seen any use at all, it should've had time for any manufacturing issues to be fixed by now (not that I'd really expect that to be an issue in truth).

i sold my black zi for $900 so i think the price is o.k.
i still have the silver one and it works just fine.

so, yeah, i would get it.

A great price, check out Popflash, I think they have a demo with warranty for under $1100. Also they would know where you can get service. That where I got mine.

Hi,

i had my ZI limited edition viewfinder realigned, after dropping it, by Nipon photo clinic in NYC (recommendation from rich at Photovillage).
No complains.
Camera works and has worked like a charm.

Thanks for your responses, everyone. Gosh, Joe, I certainly would have bought your black ZI for $900!

Joerg, can I ask what Nipon photo charged for the realignment?

Joe,

it will depend on the vertical and/or horizontal alignment. Around 100 bucks if I recall correctly.

I would not risk it for $900, since you can get new or demo with warranty for not much more. If it was more like $700 - than it would be a great price. At $900 or so I have seen several pop here and there. Just my opinion.

Ok I might be a bit on the dumb side but whats the difference between the limited edition ZM and a regular ZM?
