Andrew actually looked into it but the seller is located a bit far from where he lives. A trip to NS does sound v. good actualy, as I have been thinking of visiting the place. But all this may be a non-issue since I have not heard from the sller since yesterday, so I assume he finaly got paid by the winning bidder.
As an aside, recently I started weighing the time I spend on the hunt (can be a lot of fun, I admit) vs actual results and the cost of my time, and buyng from a reputable dealer is starting to look more and more attractive. Not that I would pass up a good bargain when I see one but all the follow up is sometimes just too much of a pain...

Andy, DO NOT fall for this favorite scam. I don't care how legit he 'sounds' He ain't. He can re list it on Ebay. That's why you haven't heard from him, he's decided your are not an easy mark. These 'second chance' offers are always a rip. Report to Ebay at www.spoof@ebay.com.

Ok, I have to add something here. In this case it does sound like a possible scam, BUT second chance offers are not always fraud. Think of it - what if you are on the other end of the stick? You are a seller and some dead beat skips on you? That happened to me. I did everything by the book - tried to get him to pay, offered to wait, etc, etc. After a month of NO response, I emailed the buyer that I will be re-listing or offering item at a second chance if he doesn't pay, plus will have to leave him a negative feedback. Still - nothing. So I did what I said I would do. Left negative feedback, offered at second chance (did sell), finally relisted. Sold at LOWER price, lost some ebay fees, AND that non-paying sucker gave me a negative feedback after all that. So, if I sold at a second chance offer - it would be a little less painful. But because of all these stories of possible fraud - nobody wants to do it. I think it's pretty simple - if seller does do a second chance offer - it should be your last bid, and it should go via Ebay system, possibly via Paypal (if you use it) to have more protection. So, use common sense. If it looks uncomfortable - don't do it, yet there are some offers that are legit.
