Would you get a 28mm or a 35mm for a G1? Why?

redisburning, thanks for pointing me to KEH. Seems like a great place to get poor! Unfortunately, I think shipping + import taxes will be a substantial amount - I'm located in Norway.
I've been in situations where I wished for a wider lens so I don't think I would want to return it.
I hope that the 28-45-90 will suit me well. I love the 45 and the 90, the 45 being the most used so far.

Have not looked, but Igor at www.igorcamera.com might be a good source, he has been partial to the lenses for the G series.

He ships world wide-- but I realize that shipping and customs can be a mine field in Europe.

The answer might be a trip, ;-)

I have bought most of the lenses for the G series twice, once for mine and once for my friend Zu in Seattle, a terrific model and student I have taken pleasure in sponsoring.

You are on to an excellent system, I used to carry two bodies and two lenses, 28 and 90mm, made for a compact kit for color and BW.

Regards, John

ps - I took a quick look and did not see any G lenses-- but you can revisit, I know he recently picked up some adapters for the Fuji X Pro.

Another vote for the 28. I have the 35 as well, and were it not for the brilliance of the other lenses in the system, I'd probably be very happy with the 35. But the 45 is so much better, and the 28 is also fantastic, whereas the 35 is merely better than most. Now, you want a lens for that system that will truly blow your socks off? Get the 21. It's WIDE, but it's perhaps the best 21 ever made (I'm sure there are some Leica fanboys out there who will dispute that assertion, but hey...). From my experience, the lens paid for itself on a vacation I took - I sold $1300 worth of prints upon return from that trip, several of which were from images taken with the 21.

Thank you so much, everyone, for your insights and opinions! They are highly appreciated.
I went for the 28mm which was shipped from Denmark by a good friend. Unfortunately it was snatched up in customs by the nice people there who thought that to receive the lens I should pay an absurd amount. I called the postal service today to ask if this was right and what would happen if I didn't pick up the parcel. It was indeed right and if I don't pick it up it will be returned to my friend.
Ironically, the amount they wanted me to pay is more than a return ticket to Copenhagen so now I have an excuse to go on a little trip.
I'll let you all know how I like the lens when I have it in my hands eventually.
