Would you get the ZM 28 if...

I have the Zeiss 21, 25, 28 and 50 Sonnar, so I'm probably not the best solution to your gas attack. Having said that, I can say that if you have the 25, the 28 is only a bit smaller and renders very similarly. I have an emotional connection with the 28mm focal length but I visually and practically prefer 25mm. Its wide enough to capture a lot but doesn't quite have the elongated perspective distortion of 21mm. The Zeiss 25mm is a super walkaround lens and just as good, and tests show it to be sharper than the 28.

You have a great kit. What would the ZM 28/2.8 add?

On the other hand, we could all easily suggest ways to stimulate GAS to supplement your kit in other directions besides focal length, such as speed, size, and "look". :D

The ZM 28 is at best an extension of capabilities you already have. Save your coin and spend it on something that will really add new/different capability to what you already have, or that will take you the photographer to a different place.

I have the 25, 35/2 and 50/2 and dreaming of a faster 28 to replace them all :)

Anyone heard anything on the rumored Leica Summilux 28/1.4 or new Zeiss ZM lens?

In fact I bought recently the C Sonnar 50, and while I loved the rendering, the focus shift drove me nuts so I quickly sold it. I think I should wait for the next additions to the ZM family ( Zeiss promised 2 lenses in 2013 ).
 
At a recent Medical/Psychiatric Conference it was confirmed that at this time there is no known cure for GAS barring full confiscation of all known credit cards, PayPal accounts and secret savings accounts for children's college education. Sorry. :D:eek::D
 
28 is a good lens
the 25 is a great lens...
for the fuji I have the 14/18... or 21/28... big enough difference to have both...
doubt that I would get both 25/28...

For me it's like cigarette craving, it comes often but if I can resist it, it goes away, only to come back stronger :D
 
The 28 is a terrific wonderful lens, little distortion, ultra sharp, small and every modern .72 mag leica has frames for it.
So i sticked to it...total keeper!

I did want a 25mm but don´t like accesory finders...

I have the c-biogon 35mm and the sonnar...
 
I have the 25, and the tiny 25 Skopar, and the 35 C Biogon. The Skopar flares and max aperture f4. The 25 Biogon is big. I did eventually buy a 28, but the tiny Leica 2.8 ASPH. I could live with that as my only lens. I am finding the 28 a very flexible focal length, giving a lot of the coverage of a 25, with much less edge of frame distortion, and some of the compositional tightness of a 35. Even with glasses I can see one of the frame lines. I think my two 25s might be retired. The 18 4 mentioned above is brilliant but big and I only take it out for planned architectural shots.
 
I use the ZM25 & ZM50 as well as a regular 35. I tried a 28 before, and like what the others mentioned, its pretty close to a 25.

I'd say keep your cash till...(hopefully) Zeiss releases a 28 or 25 at 1.4....:cool:
 
I agree that a 25 and a 28 are probably too close to bother with both. If I bring the 25 (ZF.2, in my case) the 28 stays home. An 18AIS, 25ZF, 35ZF, and 50AIS make a well-spaced set, IMO.
 
28 is a unique focal length. Relative to the 35 it gives you a good deal more coverage. A big part of its charm is that it does so without giving itself away as a wide angle as is often the case with lenses 24 and wider.
 
I currently own the 21/4.5, 28/2.8, 35/2.8 and 50/2 (plus two CVs). I am actually thinking about selling my 21,28, and 35 to fund getting the faster 35 plus the 25. I'm still debating this, because I like the compactness of the C-Biogons....

Edward, you have the perfect focal length spacing, don't change a thing.

Indeed, I think I have the most optically perfect ZM lenses with good spacing. The GAS attack is now (almost) gone :D
