Would you shoot w/o a filter and a hood?

This is not a poll. I am tempted to shoot without my normal protections tools. No UV filter and no hood. Looking to shoot with my M3 and the M-Mount CV 50/1.5. What can I expect besides riding "naked"?😀

Up until I lost its (very expensive to replace) lens cap, I always shot my 35 summilux v2 without a filter or hood. Now I use both. I think it depends on the lens, as some are more prone to flare than others.

It's actually a very good question. I always think of my lens hood as protective, but then at concerts I'm usually the one searching the floor for my hood since it easily comes off after bumping into someone... 🙂 Might try bare back too.

I've decided to try.,I use a pre-asph 35mm summilux and to be honest the hood has always got on my nerves, the two studs used to get the hood on the lens always interfere with the aperture ring, also on this lens no hood means no filter. So I'm going to try a roll in the sunshine and see how the lens performs.

There are some very nice screw-in hoods on eBay. Cheap, too.

For me, it depends entirely on the lens and the circumstances. There are lenses where the front element is so deeply recessed that I don't feel I need an additional hood. Other lenses are "flare factories" without a hood.

If I could find a nice screw in metal hood like I have for my old nikons that would be great.
I think hoods make great protection when walking around.

Like Joe.. Both unless lens cannot support it like my 12-24 sigma. Has no provision for filter, hood is built into body of lens. After seeing enough used lenses w/ micro fine scratches on the surface when I used to look thru the local camera stores and their used lens inventory, I would rather periodically replace the filter..

I don't like to use lens caps when I am out and about.. It stays at home, but they are used when I store the lens away.

If modern lens, it is going to be nothing big in difference of pictures appearance.
Just more dust on front element and more chances to have scratch on the front lens.

Would I? Well, sure--if I didn't have a hood or a filter nearby. But I do, so I don't.

I like hoods and filters. Hoods cut glare and add some protection, and the filters I do use generally are there for a purpose (yellow, orange, cooling, warming, etc.).
