So you want a digital Rollei?

I doubt the OS would have anything to do with it too.

I tried formatting the card to a different file system (on my mac) and when I do that the camera gives an error for the card and won't take any pictures. Which makes sense since it doesn't know how to read different file systems. Formating back to FAT (on my Mac, it couldn't format in camera when a different file system) got it working in the camera again.

You might try running Disk Utility -> Repair on the drive and it will see if the file system is a little corrupted. Beyond that probably reformatting will get it running again.

Curious what firmware everyone is running. Press and hold the middle button on the right when in shooting mode.

Mine comes up as v1.0.B 2025-1-11.

When in shooting mode mine only displays battery level in the lower right. But in some of the videos online it looks like they show shooting info and have the battery display at top right.

So far so good, got it working.

I reformatted using the provided cable connected to my laptop. I used dis utility as I did before but selected ms-dos fat and it still didn’t work. I tried again with extended fat and then tried the camera again. I shot some video along with stills and when connected to my laptop the files appears on my computer.

Strange thing, when I shot images just after receiving the camera and downloaded the images, when I mount the card to the desktop and open the card there’s a folder inside with images in it. When the problem started after reformatting there was no folder inside when I opened the disc. The same was true when I reformatted in camera, no folder with images.

Now, whatever changed, the reformat creates a folder inside the card and the images are located there as they should be. Every digital camera I’ve owned created that file folder inside the card and images go into that folder. Most cameras after a certain number of images creates another folder where the images go over, say 999 or so. That wasn’t happening for some reason and now it is.

Oh well, I guess the planets lined up just right and everything works now. I have no idea why it’s working now but I won’t question it.

I appreciate everyone’s help!

Same firmware that I have.

I tested my camera several more times shooting, checking on my computer and reformatting in camera and each time it works perfectly. Whatever happened has been resolved.

This post reminded me to dig through my drawer for my OG Rolleiflex Mini-Digi camera. Luckily the search was short. Here it is pictured next to a small Rollei 35 camera.

I’ve owned 3 or 4 of those over the decades and regret selling them. Sweet little cameras and produce excellent images.

Shot in NYC with the 2.8 Sonnar version on Kodachrome. Shot around 1986.

I got mine about a week ago but did not get a chance to shoot with it like I planned. These are a few test shots from today. About 99% of everything I shoot is in B&W, so I concentrated on using the mono filter on the camera. The first two shots were at a lake park close to my house. The last shot is of an old '50s gas station converted to a bar and grill. The mono jpgs are warm or have a slight sepia tone. About the only thing I did in PP was a slight tone adjustment, slight cropping, and minimum sharpening. These are pretty much how they came out of the camera.

Having now read thru this entire thread, I decided to make a decision - do I want this digiRollei, yes or no?

And finally decided, no. I have enough cameras as it is. That I no longer fail to use enough. Should, but don't.

My recurring fantasy however, is affordable 120 roll film for my collection of four analog TLRs. Three 'flexes and a 'cord, all more or less unused in a cabinet at home for want of feeding.

Maybe some day when China has taken over world dominance in trade from a fast-fading Merka...

If I were you, I would order one right now. I can tell you this, it will not be sitting around in a cabinet, unused. 😎

I hope @Rick Waldroup wouldn't mind I experimenting with your image. Apology if otherwise.

I import the above image into Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 and selected to use the Rollei Retro 100 profile. Without doing anything else, the image looks like a really nice B&W:

This is just for fun, of course.

That is awesome! I also loaded the image into Silver EFX, but I have the first version. I used my standard settings, but did not like what I was seeing. I am not a big fan of sepia toned images but decided to let the camera do what it does. Thanks for taking the time to work on that image. 🙂

Glad to see everyone is in joying their cameras. Again it’s not pro grade but I’m blown away every time I shoot with it.

As far as what I did with some of my B&W’s, I took them into photoshop and found they’re RGB so I just converted them to grayscale. I’ve not taken any into Lightroom but will and see what I can do with them there.

For me a lot of the beauty of this camera is the total inability to shoot other than full auto everything. It’s almost the ultimate point and shoot. I can focus my attention on the subject and totally forget the mechanics of shooting.

I kept telling myself there’s no need for a square format, just crop. Well until I got this camera but I found there’s something psychological about the square digital format. I’ve used TLR’s and 6x6 SLR’s since the mid 60’s and that native square format Is imbedded in my brain I guess. I’m really enjoying it.

You are so very convincing. And I too happen to especially like the square format even if it isn't 6x6.

The B&W images posted here are making me rethink my earlier stance. Striking images. All the photos everybody has so far posted look mightily impressive to me.

My one 'downer' now is the camera is too small for my hands to hold and use comfortably. For me it would be like trying to make photos with a cigarette pack.

So for me, maybe it's yes after all. But with our lousy 62 US cent kangaroo kopek to pay with, plus the extortionate postage from anywhere overseas to Australia, II expect this baby to cost well over $100. Oh well. As my SO says, it's all only money - but the problem is I don't print my own currency.

Well I just paid AU$82 off Fleabay incl shipping. As I say, have paid more for a lens hood.
