Would you trade a Noctilux for a M8?

I'm wondering if anyone would like to do so.

I have an extra Code U M8 (with warranty still intact) that I would like to trade for a noctilux.

What does everyone think about that?
Fair Trade?

Thanks!

I would never trade a noctilux for a M8. If I absolutely wanted to shoot digital, for 350$ I can buy myself a Nikon D40+50 1.4 lens and be done with the question.

This being said, there are tons of people who probably will accept your trade offer (like etrigan if he had a Noctilux, I guess) so keep on hoping.

Umm, Noctilux is $6K and will last forever.

M8 is $5.5K and will last 3 years with the warranty coverage. Or in your case, 1 year with "code U"

No, I wouldn't trade a Noctilux for an M8. If I wanted an M8, I'd pay cash, knowing that it would lose value. A Noctilux would hold its value, until the day that film isn't available.

Sorry.

Vick

I'm not asking for a new nocti.
I've been seeing people posting the value of those (~4k)
so i thought it would be a fair trade.

Weird thread. Interesting proposition. Is this an early April Fools joke? Are you, Ali Baba, writing a psychology paper? Something's not right here.

If I had an M8, I would prefer to trade it for a Noctilux also. Exactly how does one end up with an "extra" M8? Sounds like you need to be in touch with someone who has an "extra" Noctilux. But I don't know anyone like that.

Ali needs to find the right person, that owns a Noctilux, bought it years ago (not at today's price), and has been yearning for an M8.

The key to such a search is to advertise, as he has done.

The Noctilux isn't the perfect optic for everyone. It is a very specialized lens, quite heavy, and darned expensive.

I'm not sure it's weird. There have been people who, in the past, traded their noctiluxes for a 50 summilux and some little cash. Their reason was the Noctilux was simply a bad lens and the summilux was the best lens in the world. It happened quite a few times.

Since the Noctilux and M8 are the same price, I don't see why the trade couldn't be done. And there are still some people who dislike the Noctilux out there (but I think they have no idea) ;)

I actually tried to trade a noctilux for an M8. I didn't get many serious inquiries. I ended up selling the noctilux to pay for my M8. Turns out I got about $400 more for the noct than what I paid for the M8.

There is only one answer to this question: take an M8 AND a Noctilux!
So you will be nearer to the "Heaven of Photography"...

Some days I look at my M8 and think I should trade it for something useful ... a Noct would be nice and after seeing what Ned does with his I'm impressed but my Canon 1.2 will have to do me until I can snatch the coin from the master's hand! :p

i wish i still had a nocti so i could offer it for a trade now!
it's a dream of a lens, that's true, but i don't miss it at all.

Not for me...

Not for me...

Just one opinion, but an M8 can be had for 3800-4k, and I think brand dealer-new as a student for 4200... whereas a Noct of that value is very hard to find and the values are going up (as of now). However, it does depend on the condition of the lens and it's age. Could be a good deal in that case.

An M8 plus cash might be more appropriate...

Good luck in your search!

If I had a M8, and someone offered me a Noctilux in trade, I'd think about it for about a millisecond before packing the M8 up in it's box.

I did not realise the M8 STOPS taking photos after the warranty expires (and I was thhinking of buying one) LOL
Seriously though, given that you'll only be able to use film for the next decade (if...), puts longevity in a new perspective no? wait till film disapears, then lets see the value of M bodies...hmmm.

I am of a different frame of mind here: if I had a nokt sitting around I would sell/ trade for something I would like to actualy use! Maybe an M8, then buy a CV 35 1.2 and Bob's your uncle! Its all relative.
