I think this is one of the most active days I've seen in this forum - ever!

I'm seeing new and semi-new members posting more frequently as well - are we 'growing up' as a site? :)
 
A noticeable increase in gallery postings as well, and some high quality material!

One question: when a lot of photos are posted in the gallery, a lot of new ones scroll of the Main page very quickly. Is there a way to track of what's new but scrolled off the main page?

Edit: Doh! Just found it -- last 7 days etc. I should make it a rule never to post until I've had my second cup of strong coffee :)

The random image gallery at the bottom of the gallery home page is a nice feature too. If you refresh your screen new images will fill in, mixing the old with the new up above.
 
The best part of the process is that the newcomers are rapidly adapting to the collegial and courteous atmosphere of the forum. And that's an incredibly strong element that encourages them to return. Nobody has gotten snippy replies here... that I know of.

Needless to say, I always feel like I'm among friends here.
 
This is definetly one of the few forums I have seen where people act in a civil way. Lets hope it stays that way :) Oh and yes, I would love to see this be the number one site for range finder cameras :)
 
Yep, and it's becoming not only a great forum but also a fantastic on-line gallery with some impressive work ! :D Sometimes I still remember happily the first time I clicked over that photo.net link that led me here for first time :rolleyes:

Is there any other? This is by far the greatest RF site ( made that way by its members)
Gene, I agree with the fact that the gallery moves very fast these days, I'll be commenting on one post and return only to find theres 10 newer posted ;). Oh well, welcome all!

I must say that I really enjoy coming to this forum as it has the most civilised and collegial atmosphere among all the forums that I have been to. I agree with the rest that not only there are technically interesting information being posted, there are really quite a lot of outstanding photos in the gallery. I learn more in terms of shooting technique and style here than I have learned from books and exhibition. In fact, I think I have finally found what genre of photography that I am interested in. :D

i think this is a great forum but then i am a bit biased, i guess.

i'm very happy with all the members and the most civil manner in which we treat each other.

i wish i had more time to spend in the gallery. as it is, i try to pick a shooter and view all the photos posted in that gallery. i do this occasionally and it's always a treat.
i truly appreciate all the comments left re. my photos and only wish i felt more confident/able in leaving remarks for others.

glad to see some new folk but wonder where the women are? do you guys think that photography is a male oriented hobby/art?
i'd love to get some female perspective on things. (hi helen, no discourtesy intended)

anyway, thanks richard for commenting on the activity in the first place.

Joe, at the risk of getting myself into hot water, here are some of my observations...

The majority of women I know who do photography aren't as interested in the mechanical side of the craft as most men. Old RF's have little appeal to those I've met (I realize there are exceptions). But, wow, have they ever taken to digital! You see this in many of the postings on dpreview.com and even more on outdooreyes.com -- in fact on outdooreyes nearly half the posters are women, and they're doing some superb shooting. At the risk of overgeneralizing I'd say they're more focused on the image than on the means of taking the image. A lot of the female participants on that forum have moved up to digital SLR's -- they've become very serious about their work.

Another observation (not a scientific sample) -- they seem to pick up Photoshop skills, especially the creative side of PS, more readily than the male participants.

I offer these observations with trepidation ... :)

Todd took the words out of my mouth, is there somewhere better on the net?

This site has become my browsers home page pretty much since the day I found it :) .. I really like the layout, the latest posts on the front page and given some time I'll get off my bum and post some stuff in the gallery. Best of all are the people, I don't think I've seen a thread with people trying to get up each others noses, and no gear snobbery... if its a RF its enough... how cool is that.
 
Yes, it is the best Rangefinder group. Maybe I should figure out how to start my own gallery in it?

I'm glad it's more active, too. There seems to exist a certain "self ignition" point in forums where things are quiet until a number of people join, and then suddenly, things get busy. Sorta like automobile traffic on the freeway. Things-are-fine-things-are-fine-things-are-fine-holy-smokes,-where'd-all-these-cars-come-from-and-why-are-they-moving-so-slowly?
