Thanks to RFF I am now developing my B&W film at home. This site is best resource for someone looking to learn photography.

Here are a couple of shots taken last week and developed/scanned this afternoon. Only two for now, more scanning to do. 🙂

Not Only B&W...

Not Only B&W...

If you can find the kits nowadays, you can also do your own slide processing at home. I used Unicolor (Unichrome, actually, I think) chemicals which could be bought fairly sensibly priced at any well-stocked camera store.

There was no special magic involved and talk about a thrill...when you pulled that first roll off the reel to let it dry, you were transported to another dimension!! "Wow! I did that myself!!"

You absolutely will NOT save money doing your own slides, but the satisfaction of realizing you've not only shot the pictures but also processed them is more than worth it!

ibrando,

I started developing film back in 1975...yes, 32 years ago...and printing too...
I still get that WOW feeling that you got...
Did a roll of 220 film last night and was just as excited while developing it as you were...enjoy...

Fun isn't it! I started to develop my own B&W film about 2 months ago, its a hoot! When you finished your first roll did you run through the house forcing everyone to "Look" at the pictures you made 😀

I started in 1967, and I'm also still thrilled each time! Good work! Stay at ir! You'll find that the Zen of the process more than makes up for the extra time involved. I read the other day in a photo mag that a photoshop guy worked fifty-three HOURS on a small part of the picture in question. I'd MUCH rather spend the time in the darkroom. NOTHING like a silver print and NOTHING like a Summicrom lens! Keep at it!

Its very rewarding to be able to shoot and bring home the rolls and process them straight away. After some time you will get into a process youll like and the developing will be quicker.
I dev in a room with no water supply and its all fine. I can have the negs in the scanner in 35 minutes.

Thank you all,

I hope to do more tonight from a shoot tis morning. I can see this will definitely be an addiction for me. 🙂

Oh and yes, I did run around the house showing anyone who would look the negs constantly saying "I can't believe I did this!". The cat and my soon-to-be-bride were not as impressed as I... 😉

Cheers,
Brandon.
