I knew the finder on my Canon QL-17 GIII was a bit hazy, but I did not realize how bad it had gotten.

Increasing difficulty focusing in low-light inspired me to finally take the top off and do some cleaning. I used Rick Oleson's handy diagram, some Windex, a few Q-tips, and a microfiber cloth. Disassembly and reassembly were bery simple, really, once the diagram indicated how to loosen the trim ring around the wind lever. I had it apart, cleaned, and back together in about 10 minutes.

Quite a difference. I've cleaned up quite a few finders but I think this must be one of the most dramatic improvements I've seen.

Now I just need to get around to the light seals...

I did the seals on my old QL17 eons ago. I think Jon Goodman (intersplice, I think?) on ebay sells a kit that I used. It's an even quicker and easier job than the one you just finished.

Thanks, that is reassuring. I'm embarrassed to admit that I already have an Interslice kit for the QL-17 that I haven't yet installed. I always use a half-case with this camera and it helps avoid lightleaks even with the dodgy seals. I want to do it soon, though, before any sticky chunks detatch and make their way into the innards.
