Wow, the OM-D is noisy!

I have now used the camera for a few days in various (99% outdoor) scenarios, and I am happy to confirm what I thought would be the case from the start: the noise is completely masked in typical use and should not be heard by anyone around the photographer. Of course, I can hear it every time I bring the camera to my eye, but it is not distracting since you expect for the noise to be there and the noise characteristic remains constant. The camera is regardless so noisy that it may draw attention in very quiet and intimate environments. Something to worry about only once it happens, I guess.

The lens is no noisy than any other, but then again people will complain about the font on the lens barrel so I guess everythings up for grabs.
Right. This thread is however not about the Panasonic 20mm or the font on it. The OM-D actually is noisy. Like said, not a problem in most situations.

I take it that this noise is not recorded in the video mode? I wonder what happens if you use the external mic hotshoe adapter?

The noise is actually greatly reduced when switching the mode dial to video. I assume the same thing happens when you start video recording in PASM modes, but will have to double check that.
