Wow... suddenly, Mr Cruise grew a couple of inches in my estimation. A Leica user and film shooter to boot! :) Good to hear that!

Dang, Tom.... congratulations again for your photos, this time with YOU in it, and the other Tom...you know, that Leica shooter...uh, Tom Cruise, yeah, that's it!:):):)

Tuulikki and I had gone down to our local market on Granville island. My supply of elk sausage was running low. On the way out we did run in to Robert Olsen, fellow Leica shooter (and Rapidwinder user). We chatted for a while and then we headed away. Suddenly Robert came around the corner and said "Tom, Tom Cruise wants to meet you!" Of course we went back and got introduced and ended up talking for a couple of minutes. Tom Cruise is actually a very nice guy, very gracious and pleasant. We talked about things like Leica, film, Vancouver weather (permanent subject among the locals anyway). Turns out he is a Leica shooter, uses film and we also managed to cover subjects like "Orson Welles "The Third Man" and the use of XX.
They are shooting "Mission Impossible 4" and he is here until March for that. I should get him to come to the Friday morning Zen one week. We have painters, photographers, architects, doctors etc - no actors as of yet.
He spotted Tuulikki's red Lumix G1 and willingly posed for her. Of course, this morning I was mercilessly ribbed at Zen for this "Oh Tom Tom" (European for GPS!).

Fantastic! Of course, everybody loves Tom Cruise... wouldn't it be absolutely too cool for him to become an RFF member too?:cool::cool:

Very cool, thanks for sharing the story. It's funny, just before I saw this thread, I was watching "Lions for Lambs" and I was just thinking what a hell of a role he played in that and what an amazing movie it was.

And now that I know Mr. Cruise is a Leica film shooter, I like him even more.

Cool Tom, are you getting a cameo in the film? Leica, CV, or Nikon SP around the neck for the CU shot?

pkr

Even if we don't get into whether one "loves him" or likes his movies or not, I don't think RFF (or any such forum for that matter), has that great a track record as a celebrity hangout. At least until they're identified. If I remember the Seal-on-a-plane threads, those got bad really fast, and Seal is pretty harmless as far as celebrities go.

Tom Cruise in particular is probably too controversial as a celebrity.
