I just picked up an M2 and CV 35/2.5 (my first foray into Leica-world....both are in the mail and due to me tomorrow!) and plan on carrying the body and lens assembled in my normal day bag, a great old danish schoolbag I have.

I figure the best way to carry the Leica if I want to always have it with me is to just put it in a wrap and in one of the front pockets so that it's safe, so what wrap/neoprene sleeve/etc. would you guys recommend? My first thought was one of the domke wraps, but does anybody else have something along the same lines they use? And if you recommend the domke ones, what size would you go for given the m2 & 35/2.5 cv (pancake, so it's very small)?

Thanks--
Evan

I'm using a Domke wrap for an RD-1 and one lens, and there's still quite a bit of space to spare. Not sure which size it is but each side (unfolded) looks about 40cm to me.

Anybody know where you can buy the inserts that go into the artisan and artist bags? They look great, and I'm thinking one more option might be to put one of those in the bag....I know I saw the link once to buy them, but I've had an awful time trying to refind it tonight.

Hi Evan,

The Leica M2 and CV35/2.5 is the exact same kit that got me inducted into the world of Leica 3 weeks ago!! They are great aren't they. I bought the chrome LTM 35/2.5 😀.

Anyways, back to your question. The wrap that i am using now comes with my LowePro TerraClime - great little bag - but i am not sure if you can buy the wrap separately. I don't thinks so.

Otherwise, i think the Domke wraps will do the job just as well. Domke sells inserts as too and the M2 and CV35/25 will fit into the small compartment of the insert (if you are planing to buying the insert with 4 or 2 compartment)

I use an A&A insert in my PORTER messenger back. Good protection for the camera with one lens + second lens. My Rolleiflex fits with hood, too. Don't know where to get A&A outside of Japan, I bought mine locally.

Leica does make a neoprene camera-pouch (for the M8, it has small inserts for memory-cards) that would fit your M2 very well. Not only is it very handy, but it also is not outrageously priced!

I use Domke wraps and they're fine - the medium size works for Leica M, Rolleiflex etc. Mainly I use them to ensure that the camera doesn't get scratched by other things in the bag, to be honest you don't need to worry too much about damage. I take the padding out of my Billinghams, so i can use them to carry my university stuff as well, no damage so far.

By the way Monochrom in Berlin stock A&A, possibly not the full range though.

I have an m2 and the cv 35 and the Terraclime as well! It's a good combo, I wish you could have Velcro attachments to stick the wrap to one side of the bag.
As it is the wrap tends to be used in the rucksack I use when I cycle to work. It would pad out a sufficient sized bag pocket nicely. You may want to put a sheet of foam at the bottom of the pocket to assist against shocks.

I use the Domke single size inserts in a Danish Schoolbag often, but in the main compartment when the expansion zipper is closed. The front pockets on mine seem too small for an insert, but Domke does make an "end pocket insert" which might work.
