wrist strap or shoulder strap?

I personally prefer shoulder/neck strap as there might be times that I may not be carrying a bag with me to store the camera after shooting.

If I was still shooting with small cameras like the GR, RX100 then maybe a wrist strap.

I need a shoulder strap to hold my camera steady for shooting. The camera is on a short strap over my right shoulder. I have to pull it tight to get the viewfinder up to my eye. Along with pressing the camera against my nose and my brow it allows me to shoot at significantly lower shutter speeds than trying to do it "freehand."

if your strap will be only hanging from your shoulder (not around your neck) I'd recommend putting some rough material on the shoulder pad and lining the bottom of your case with foam or other shock-absorbing material... in case the strap unexpectedly slips right off your shoulder (been there).

Just a reminder that for extra security, a Duraflex 3/4'' Uniloop would fit the A&A cloth wrist strap easily and perfectly. It's almost identical to the Nifco plastic loop used on the ACAM-108 shoulder/wrist strap.

I have a test. I attach a wrist strap, braided Leather, looped and whipped to my size requirements. I attach this to my camera(s), put to on my wrist, and hold my arm out straight from my side. If this feels OK, the camera is "wrist-strap"; if not I use a neck strap.

Seems I can't read a Back Alley post and not get GAS. Ordered a Lance regular in 54" and an adjustable one. The adjustable might be the answer to the heavier camera issue as the adjustment creates a double layer of cord at the back of the neck and might just ease the "digging in" that the single gives me.

after so many years of shooting i just know what i like now...lance straps, domke bags, fuji cameras & lenses...
and eventually i'll get that one pic that makes me really happy!
it's on my bucket list...

I used wrist straps until I found I hated having a hand tied up. Now I just use the straps that came with my cameras, even with my little Sony Rx1r.

Today's kit: Olympus E-PM2 with 20mm f/1.7, and Sony A7II with screw-mount VC 12mm f/5.6. A camera in each coat pocket and the straps at home where they belong.
