Wrist Strap Recommendations

The Luigi wrist strap is the best out there, IMO. I have a second one on its way to me right now!

HERE is the M Classics strap that I bought from Joe. The strap is nylon webbing with a very nice soft leather pad that goes over your wrist.

One that screws into the tripod socket.

Rawhide shoelace thru one lug. Use for emergency only to keep from dropping camera. One lug is not strong enough to hold a camera.

Use about 15", knot, put hand thru and tighten to appropiate amount by passing you hand around the camera. NOT eligant, but servicable and will not wear the strap lugs.

Like I said emergencies. One lug is not strong enough

Drop Gordy a note to see if he can make you a custom length version for you. I bet it would be less expenseive and just as good.

I did that a few weeks ago and I've not heard from him. Perhaps his email was blocked by my spam filters (I checked, but things get past me.)

the mclassic is no longer made and is available only as a used item, afaik.

they originally sold for about 46 bucks. they sometimes pop up on ebay.
give seth a call/email and see if he has any hanging around.
very nice guy and he makes a great camera bag too!

the hakuba is good for the price but if you try a really nice one you'll never go back.

luigi makes a superlative strap, elegantly simple and leather so soft yet strong that it molds to your wrist.

i am spoiled...

i used the hakuba for awhile and it was very good, looked good too.
i like luigi's, not just for looks, but also for comfortable use.

before i started to buy them i made mine from old neck straps that i had in a box. they were very good too and customized to the exact length i liked.

I've never used any other wrist strap than Luigi's, but it is so nice, I'm not sure I ever will. So, one more vote for Luigi!

I use the wrist strap on my iiig strapped to my right hand with my finger on the trigger. I'm always holding the camera, the strap is just for saftey. Sometimes the camera and my hand go in my coat pocket, but it is always ready to shoot this way.

I haven't tried the iiig on a neck strap, but it just feels right in your hand, so the wrist strap seems a great way to carry it.

See, I've always wondered if I were not doing it "wrong."
I like to keep my right hand free, so I wear it on the left. Of course, that means using 2 hands for every shot and perhaps being more obvious with the camera.
Maybe I'll try a tripod mount wrist strap and shift from hand to hand as the mood strikes me.

i also use the right hand, fingers wrapped around the grip, ready to raise the camera and shoot.

i carry a small bag most of the time and the camera slips quickly into it if i need my hand for some other use.

I've been behind on my email. I've been dealing with an Alzheimer's mother-in-law and sometimes I have to let some things slide.

I can make my straps longer. I can do it on a custom basis and if we are only talking a couple of inches there wouldn't be an extra charge. Just make a note in the comments page on checkout.

I would like to know if those with my straps think they should be a little longer? I can start making them a little longer if that works better for everyone.

Wrist strap on the right hand or left hand? That's a good question. I use my right hand for my 35mm cameras and left hand for my medium format cameras. That's generally because I hold my 35mm cameras with my right hand and focus with my left. I hold my medium format cameras with my left hand and focus with my right. My medium format cameras also need to have speeds and aperture set from from the front or right side. Having the right hand free makes it easier. On my 35mm cameras the right hand only has to hold the camera, press the shutter release, and adjust speeds, which is well within the range of motion with the wrist strap on.
