Hi all i just ordered a few items including an Olympus 24/2 from KEH last weekend but today it arrived with everything except the Oly 24/2 being a Nikkor 20/3.5🙁

Strange thing is that the bag is labeled as "Olympus 24/2"😱

I felt that it's quite screwed coz there's no way proving that i didn't receive the Oly 24/2... Fortunately after i called them, they told me to send back and pay the difference to get another slightly more expensive Oly 24/2 in their stock.

So i am wondering, does anyone here has the experience of doing this type of cross-border exchange? Coz i already paid quite some COD for the "Nikkor Olympus 24/2", and makes no sense to pay tax again. Should I give them some shipping instruction etc? Thanks in advance!

No direct experience with this, but I'm guessing you'll have to call CBSA to request a refund of the taxes. If you paid brokerage fees through your courier, call them to see if they can refund the charges directly. This might work especially if you're returning the shipment through the same courier service. You'll probably need to provide some documentation and, of course, you will still be out the cost of shipping both ways.

If, for some reason, you can't get a refund of your taxes, have KEH indicate on their commercial invoice that the item they're shipping back is an exchange. From my experience, that usually stops CBSA from charging tax on the item, although that's usually on items delivered by Canada Post. The big couriers like UPS or FedEx might still charge tax on your return shipment since they just send everything through a broker to clear customs.

Hi,

Speak to the custom people re the tax etc. It's not unusual for things to go wrong and the system will sort it out. I don't mean KEH btw but any cross border transaction.

Regards, David
