Yup! Looking for the dreaded and maligned Contax G 35mm. If you have one that you're itchin' to rid yourself of, drop me a line and maybe we can work a deal for me to take such a horrible lens off your hands. Thanks, Chuck :p

Hmmm... I've been watching some of the same eBay auctions you have. :D
Maybe there are two somebodies with 35's they gotta dump...

I have entertained the thought... but it feels terribly painful.

Besides, I wouldn't like to burden anyone with such an inferior lens as the Planar 35/2. Much less with a camera as substandard as the G1...

JK! :D

Did you check out KEH? The prices for both, G1 and G2 have plummeted, yet the ones in stock in KEH seem to have flown off the shelves. If there's a good moment to get one of these, this is it. Good luck!

Here's a good price on a new one, though I wonder how reliable this vendor is...

Maybe they even have three of them at $264.98 each... :) With Calumet at $499 and B&H at $399, then this price $135 lower, ya gotta wonder if it could be a custom hand-made cardboard mockup or something!

Not reliable at all, Doug. Avoid them like the plague.

Add me to the list. It figures the one G lens I really want right now is becoming hard to find at a decent price.

Poon at www.hksupplies.com has them for $360 and that includes free shipping if you ask. He's absolutely reliable and honest. And shipping by Hong Kong post to the US is 3-4 days.

I believe his is THE source for new Contax gray market gear.

FWIW, the 35mm Planar is my MOST used lens and I have the 21, 28,35,45 & 90.

Got one!

Got one!

Found one at a local camera show today... $275 brand new in box, plus GG-1 hood and GK-54 cap! :D

Wow, mhocter, that's excellent! Congratulations on finding a nice way to scratch the itch!

I found one too, by dilligently checking KEH mornings and afternoons... One appeared there yesterday sometime. I had convinced myself I didn't need it, that 45mm and 28mm were sufficient to cover that range. Well, it didn't take me long to hit the "Buy it" button!

It was listed as "excellent" at $225 including the GG1 lenshood which they sell separately as well for $35. I wanted the hood anyway, so I figure I got the lens for $190. There won't be any box or pouch with it.

Maybe a "Whoo-Eeee" is warranted here, though I have not received the confirmation of shipping email yet. I have once before "bought" a KEH item only to have them email me to retract the first (automated) email that's generated by the transaction, telling me that I had hit the Buy It after someone else had but before their computer had withdrawn the item from the listing. But 24 hours later it seems unlikely for that to happen now.

So the Contax GAS attack has done its damage and maybe run its course? Just today I received the 90mm lens from another RFF member, complete with box and papers just like new. Looks like the system is pretty much complete... :D

Yup. I finally found one of these dogs. Excellent condition with GG1 hood and only $165. This boy is feelin' lucky today!

A couple of years ago, I purchased mine from a photographer in Seattle who was going digital... or something. Can't remember well. It was an eBay BIN for $150, and the seller warned me of a scratch in the rear element. I think it's a record price. For a while I thought the price I paid for my G1 would be unbeatable ($435 with a Planar 45/2, shipping included), but I've seen the same kit on sales for less recently.

The 35/2 has been on my G1 ever since. Decent lens, indeed. Despite its inferior quality, I mean... :)

Glad you got one, Chuck! :D

Lucky indeed, Chuck; that was a great price. Where and how did you find it?

I didn't see one piece of Contax G gear at the big camera show yesterday, kinda surprising....

Happy for you. The 35mm is my most used of all the G lenses.

FWIW, the GG-2 hood works better for the 35mm and the 28mm Biogon as well. More shade and doesn't vignette even with the 28mm. Now I recognize that most of you use the shorter GG-1 hood because Kyrocera told you to. I've just never been very good at following directions, instead doing what works for me.

Interesting, Bob... Is the GG-2 still ok when extended by the addition of a filter?
