WTB -- Hexanon-M 21-35mm lens

A mythical beast, no? Unless I'm mistaken. I know it exists, but I haven't seen it offered very often. Could fetch over-the-top dollars (or insert your currency of choice).

.

I'd love to get one, to be an M-Hexanon compleatist if nothing else. But I don't expect to find one anytime soon. I have the 35/2 Hex. and CV 21 and those will do fine. Anyway, f4 at 35mm is pretty slow, so this is really more of an outdoor lens.

In the last week or two I found a link on the internet to a shop in Japan that had two listed for sale. I can't remember where I found the link. GOOGLE might know. I can tell you that the forums I frequent most are this one & LUG, if that helps narrows the search.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

Dave they are few and far between (only 800 manufactured) and the image quality is reported to be not up to prime lenses in both focal lengths. They are expensive too.

Hex Dual 21-35

Hex Dual 21-35

I have had this lens and would agree to what was said earlier, definately more useful outside. I use it with an RD-1 and like the cropped focal lengths I get. I may sell it in the near future.

Where does the line form? I got first dibs! Who do I have to arm wrestle?

Oh dear, where are my manners. Of course Dave, the thread starter, has first right of refusal.

I'm next after Dave!

Nope. Tri-State has the lens on its website but no actual lens for sale. I inquired last week. And I appreciate all the give-and-take on the value and quality of the lens.

Hi Joe,

hate to be a pain but this really belongs in the wtb section of the classifieds or for this month only, the sept. sale thread.
But apparently nobody reads the WTB section of the classifieds!! Or at least not enough people that there is a real chance that someone who has a rarer item like this is actually going to find the ad. I posted a WTB ad there for a moderately common lens and had no responses whatsoever for weeks. Then elsewhere on RFF in an unrelated thread on the lens I was looking for I made a post that I was interested in one, and I had messages from three different people who had one spare in hours.

I know that a site needs to generate revenue somehow, and this is a discussion that has been fruitlessly had elsewhere many times over. But as far as I'm concerned, the usefulness of the new classifieds, in particular and especially the WTB and WTT sections, is on par with hunting for a Leica Noctilux in the local paper every Saturday.

I only hope we can have a December sales thread as well were we discuss what equipment we might have to part with in order to finance christmas gifts for our loved ones.

phillip,
there is no charge for wtt or wtb ads, so revenue is not the issue.

this is a decision made by jorge, the owner of the site, and over which i have no power to change.
i thought i was being very 'nice' in allowing a month long 'garage sale' thread.

and i think you would be surprised at how many read those ads...

Of course revenue is the issue, else we wouldn't have the new classifieds in the first place. In fact I don't think there is any other issue. It's a good thing WTB ads don't cost money, but then if they did I think their usefulness wouldn't be positively affected.

I'm aware of that. However, usually the enforcer of a policy tends to be identified with said policy.

Anyway, I'm not attacking you here. The discussion has been had many times over, and I'm not asking you to defend a system you didn't implement.

You certainly were. I hope you'll have the opportunity to be nice again before Christmas 🙂

But of course I know how many people read those ads! Well, I admit I'm obviously not aware of how many people read them, but know how many people click on them, as the database keeps track of this. I'm not sure how many people actually read them after opening them, though, which skews the data somewhat (but not in favour of the system).

Anyway, the Hexanon ad of a week ago was opened 24 times over a week. Not a lot by any standard. My own ad has been viewed 21 times in seven weeks. Not a frightful lot either, especially in direct comparison with the response to my footnote remark in a thread somewhere else, to which I got a number of responses. These people were RFF readers, one of them a frequent poster, who were interested in selling specifically the item for which I had posted a WTB ad, which they apparently hadn't seen at all. Given that I personally look at other people's WTB ads every now and then when I don't have the device in question, and that I think some others might be into this habit as well, I come to the conclusion that the views on most of these ads aren't generated by people actually interested in selling this particular device, but by people randomly browsing ads. Next to no WTB ads have comments attached to them. And finally, well, I don't know about all the other potential sellers of items, but if I had a device where I might consider selling it, possibly without my mind set on selling it yet, I probably wouldn't start searching for a WTB ad either where this particular device is wanted, so I would miss a WTB ad anyway.

In my opinion the numbers underline the uselessness instead of disproving it. I can imagine that every now and then an item does get sold, but in general I don't think it's a very successful institution - especially compared to an old-style classifieds thread where basically everybody got to see every ad.

Well, inappropriately placed or not, someone did see my posting here, refer it to a friend, and I´ll have the desired lens within the week at a fair price.

I did do a WTB classified ad some weeks before with no response. I also assume that no one looked there. I wouldn´t even if I had some stuff to sell or maybe to sell -- way too hit and miss.

So my M8 "Bi-Elmar" lens comes to me because of this posting...

Dang! As a Hexanon completist I hereby take over this thread and now declare that I too WTB a Hexanon 21-35mm lens. (I'm serious. I do!) 😉 But I'll post according to the rules and bury my request in the classifieds. 🙂

did you get ddimaria's?
