Just got the X-E1 body today and have mounted my Zuiko lenses. So far very satisfied with the results.

One question that I can't find documentation for. Is it possible to enable the built-in flash in the "shoot without lens" mode? Currently the flash settings are greyed out, so I assume that you must have an xf lens mounted (or perhaps use an external flash.) Any insights are much appreciated.

Oh! Thanks soooo much! Seeing as how I've been tasked with photo duty tonight, I was beginning to drift into panic mode. I'm turning the sounds back on now.

As an aside, I wonder what the thinking was behind that decision?

no idea why the flash is connected to the silent mode...i'd like to thump my chest but i did the same thing as you (and many others here)...

Yep I too did the same thing. You can turn off all the sounds individually in the menus and effectively have silent mode whilst still being able to use flash. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the info. Now that the grandchildren have gone home, I'm going to curl up by the fire with my Jameson and the manual.

Here's a straight from camera jpg using the Zuiko 28/3.5, no pp. The original is amazingly sharp for being hand-held. According to the EXIF data, the shutter speed was 1/56 and ISO was 1600:
