sweet handling, that is!
really liking this smaller body and even the evf...though i find myself using the rear lcd quite a bit as well.

18/2, 1600, wide open

about the same brightness...the x-e1 is smoother when panning and if you hold the shutter release half way it is very smooth when panning. the x-pro1 looks very rough when panning, in comparison.

Joe,
Do you think you could be satisfied with only the XE1 and without the XP1?

i do...i like the size and handling...the finder is fine to use...is it an adjustment from a rangefinder? you bet! but i can survive...as i said before, i like using the rear lcd which is a real surprise for me.

just an fyi...2 of the older, more seasoned sales guys at the camera shop are thinking about getting the x-e1 while passing on the larger x-pro...

I bought the xe over the pro for that exact reason. My larger cameras which ive since sold were just not getting the use they deserved. I've also realised after shooting with evf, that I've really missed the precise framing thats lacking when using rangefinders. FrankS, check out this link for a good size comparison.

Well the corner sharpness of the 18/2 is just horrible. What a crapppy lens!

Oh... wait... um... never mind.

After your report I have to reconsider my plan to keep my X100 rather than sell it so I can pick up a XE-1 body to use with my XP-1.

Yeah. the 18 is absolutely horrible. ;) Even if not up to the standards of the 35mm I have a hard time finding anything that outdoes it. It's a pukka lens.

personally I'm quite happy shooting raw and doing my first editing and converting to jpeg on camera. I like to keep the B&W-or-colour decision for after I've seen the file and I need the raw file to push/pull it up to 2 stops if I've missed exposure for some reason, and the in-camera engine is really good at doing this. Then I do my usual cropping/rotations and slight tonality/local adjustments on the resulting jpegs in post processing, and archiving the raw files in case I change my mind on the PP sometime in the future (almost never happens).

only reason I've stuck with the X-series that have an OVF is that I shoot high-contrast scenes a lot and even the latest EVFs tend to block the shadows a lot. Otherwise the XE-1 looks awesome, and I do switch to the EVFs on my x100 and Xpro frequently when I need super-accurate framing. I'm just not sure I could do with 100% EVF just yet, maybe sometime in the future as they get bettern and better all the time.
