hmmm...

So this is the cheaper sister of the x-pro1 then. Can't say I'm a huge fan - the optical viewfinder is the point of the system for me.
 
No OVF, and a big, honkin' zoom kit lens on the front. Why do I feel like this is moving backward?

Seriously though, I guess Fuji wants to get in the market to compete with m4/3, which means AF speed is important, as are zoom lenses.

My interest level: zero.
 
well, i am interested. i like my x100's evf. this new one with a 50 equivalent would be very interesting. the question is: will it cost less than the nex-7?
 
Kinda ugly, with the blank front plate. Rangefinder-style cameras without windows tend to look eyeless to me. Otherwise, looks like a hybrid of the X100 and X-Pro1 aesthetically. And it's kinda like the old DMC-L1, isn't it?

I'm much less interested in this than in the NEX-6. Fuji's retro style and hybrid finder are a package deal for me.
 
I'm an enthusiastic NEX7 user, but this really appeals. I've learned to like the EVF concept and having a system that uses traditional controls (shutter speed on top plate, aperture ring concentric on the lens) gets my attention.

Time will tell.
 
I think given the market, its a very logical camera that fits in with everyone else. Not every single one their products can be groundbreaking. If it has the same sensor as the XP1 than the performance will be great.

I still think the concept of having a digital camera with a EV, shutter, and aperture ring in revolutionary in todays market....
 
There is an EVF on it, you can tell there's an eyepiece on the back.

This is a natural addition to the series - a cheaper, entry-level alternative to compete with the OM-D and NEX-7.
 
To me the xe1 is a split in the line intended to attract more customers, cost and those not needing ovf similar to what Nikon did the d1 and d100 very early on with first dslr products.

The evf in the xe1 is an improvement, since it is an oled, supposedly the same one that Sony is going to release with nex6.

Rumors are that a xp1 next gen is in early 2013.

The X-E1 is actually interesting enough to make me wonder if it would be a good NEX7 replacement for me - I much prefer the idea of the more traditional controls on the Fuji. We'll see.

I enjoy the X-Pro 1's traditional controls.

The XF prime lenses can be manually set in 1/3 stops. The shutter dial has full stops. In manual exposure mode you can select 1/3 shutter speed stops using a button on the back of the camera. Of course exposure compensation dial allows for 1/3 shutter stops in aperture priority mode.
 
I'm very interested in this camera. To me, it seems to be no contest between the X-E1 and the NEX series for two major reasons: 1) traditional controls; and 2) lens options. One minor reason is image quality...though debatable, I prefer the look of the X-Trans sensor. Regardless, more options = better for everyone.
 
I might switch to this from m4/3. EVF only is fine with me. Having aperture on the lens and a exposure compensation dial is very appealing.

I already sold my NEX-7 and the 24mm-Lens. I always took the X100 when I wanted a 35mm Feeling.
Sadly, the 23mm Lens won't come before 2013. Nevertheless I see myself better served with the X-System.

As I used my X100 with the EVF more and more, I won't miss it in the X-E1. It seems perfect for my needs.

I already preordered one here in Germany. It seems as it won't come in a kit with the new Zoom here... :(
 
my main curiousity about this camera is whether the greatly improved evf translates into a greatly improved manual focusing experience, obviously from the purely visual as opposed to mechanical perspective...

I'm interested, partly for two reasons, I have my X100 and love the Fuji range, but due to AF issues on the XP-1 I am hesitant, at least till the next gen of the XP line comes out. The XE-1 will give me the 50mm option I have been longing for at times, and the IQ of the XP-1. Additionally when I finally get me an XP-2? I will have the lenses already.

Based on the reports from beta testers (DPREVIEW staff) I think focusing with the by turning the lens barrel manually will be better than before.

Howeve, I don't recommend the Fuji X series to anyone who wants to use visually driven focus 100% of the time.

In about a week there will be hundreds of hands on reports fron X-Pro 1 owners who have upgraded to the new (XE-1) firmware. So there will be lots of information soon.
