X-Pan With Flash

Perhaps I am unobservant but I don't recall an specific reference to using flash with an X-Pan. Some time ago I bought a second Vivitar 283 so that I could use two side by side to get coverage for the wider X-Pan lenses but have never got further than that.

I would be interested in other members' experiences, in particular with the 45 or 30mm lenses.

You don;t need two. Just set the flash to auto and the lens setting to ~24mm when using the 45 and 21mm when using the 30mm and it should be a good starting point. I'd also start with 50% power from the flash

Not sure. Never used a V 283, but if you are using one of the modern auto-flash, it's a cinch.

I don't have such a flash unit. and find the technology of interest although I won't be investing.

Must legacy guns cover the flield of a 35mm or 28mm lens and no wider. My T32 for OM cover 24mm, 21mm with an add-on lens.. I don't know of any which cover the equivalent of 15mm.

One could always move the flash further back, actually or by bouncing.

Anyway, I am open to the experiences of others.

I've used both a Nikon SB-27 and a Metz 45 when I had my Xpan. Mostly for indoor photo bouncing the flash in the ceiling, which was no problem and provided nice pictures.

I have taken plenty of shots with the 45mm lens and a Vivitar 283 of the artwork around my academy. However, only a few of those in the panoramic format. The Vivitar flash has no problems covering the wider scene, at least not that I noticed.

I just put the shutter speed to 125 and fire away.

By the way, I often use the XPan in normal format. That way I can get mounted slides and view then with a regular projector. Of course, when the occasion arises, I shoot the panoramic format, which can be very rewarding.

Anyway, It's just such a nice camera to use that I prefer to just use it in either format, rather than trying to hunt for that panoramic shot...

I use mine in normal format when I have a problem with my OM cmaras but the range of focal lengths is too limiting. for general use.

I am looking to buy a very simple flash. First of all I would like to use it on my Canon EOS camera, so I would like to buy a Canon flash, I am looking into 270EX II. Now I would like to know, will that flash unit also work on Xpan II. Very likely no one has this combo out there, but has anyone tryed it with Canon EX series flash unit on Xpan. It very likely that if it works with one, it might work with others as well.

On the other note, what flash unit would you recomend for Xpan II.

My main goal with flash is just some fill light, simple bounce. Just simple small flash and 270 EX II, looks fine to me.

Would appreciate any toughts on this one.
