I went to turn on my camera this afternoon. No response. Removed battery and charged it. When put back in the camera the lens starts to go through its startup routine for a tiny fraction of a sec, but no lights, or other feedback and then it just sits there like a lump. No recent firmware update, impact or anything else out of the ordinary. Aaargh. Anyone else experience something similar? Camera was purchased June 2012.

Do you have another battery to try ?

Tried three different batteries. Same result. Batteries showed as being charged.

Bad SD card? That was the cause of similar problems for me.

Thanks, Dante. I tried starting the camera with no SD card just now. Same behavior. My emerging hypothesis is corrupt firmware or a bad electrical connection somewhere.

Man what a bummer..
I have never had this happen to me.. But here are a couple of things I would try..
- w/ the sd card not in the camera also remove the lens and retry
- w/ lens not on camera try to c if u can initiate a fw update
Good luck

Back to Fuji NJ tomorrow. . . thank heavens for B&H's e-mailed invoices. I'd never find the paperwork in my disaster of an office.

If it makes you feel better, Fuji NJ is quite pleasant to deal with and tend to be pretty quick in appraising/evaluating issues.

Enjoy Life.
You might try pulling the lens, cleaning the contacts on both lens and body. You never know.
Best of luck!

I was going to say, check that display button isn't just keeping display off!

Best of luck to you, Benjamin and sorry to hear of the trouble. Please keep us updated on your dealings with Fuji, as eventually, some of us may have to deal with them for one thing or another.

Spoke to Fuji customer service. They will take care of the problem as the camera was purchased in from B&H June of 2012 and is still under warranty. First and only time a camera has died on me (although I have had bits (Pentax LX rewind crank), bobs (locked shutter on a Rolleiflex) and systems (M6 light meter) break). I'm shipping the thing back to them tomorrow and then we will see. He did say that this sort of problem, while not unknown, is very rare.

Bummed for you but glad they are taking care of it. Hope this doesn't become a trend with these bodies; they seem to be pretty trouble free so far (knocks wood).
