X-Pro 2 rumor update: 24 mp APS-C sensor

In a way I think the Xpro 1 arrived too early in the Fuji line up. Now with a commitment to APS C
There really isn't anything for its successor to differentiate itself with from the rest of the fuji X cameras beyond the form factor and an OVF. In a way I think fuji has listened too well to an audience that has placed AF performance over anything else.
Of course if you are earning a living from the x cameras I can understand the need but I hope it doesn't end up being at the expense of the original xpro mojo

same sense here. i waited to buy into fuji, holding out to see the XF lens line-up fill out, as i wanted the AF option (have RFs for MF lenses) in a small form kit. i am so pleased with the 18-55, 23, and 56 - size, performance, price, just excellent. i'd hate to see these lenses orphaned to full frame Fuji X bodies. really hoping that fuji stays with aps-c, matures the cameras & lenses like it has been doing, shows the kind of long-term digital product sensibility that engenders user loyalty.

edit: i've noticed that native AF lenses for FF mirrorless tend to be nearly as large as equivalent dSLR glass, which for me negates a large part of the advantage of going mirrorless. if fuji went FF, would their FF lenses retain the size of the XF line? probably not, at least for fast(er) glass.

I agree. Fuji might be thinking the cameras are supposed to be a smaller camera that makes compact size a higher priority than sensor size. Especially, when the current sensor size seems fine in many DSLR's and the current X-line. After all, full frame is only full frame in relation to 35mm lenses...Yet, it may still move towards a full-frame sensor if the Sony does well.

24mp ehe ?
Well this would possibly prompt me to pick up an XT1.
I've been waiting to ad a second X series body to my xpro1. Was hoping for an Xpro2 with the v2 Xtrans chip with PD AF and a higher resolution/re-freshing EVF.

I sure love the relatively lightweight files of 16MP. A new 24MP version would just mean heavier clunkier files imo.
The exra resolution is wasted on my needs and those of 90% of any client work i get.
I bet that's true of most of us if we admit it. :p

My crush on the Xpro1 has recently been renewed. I only would like a bit more EVF resolution for difficult focus situations.
It's a really kick-ass producers already!

With the current line up XF lenses designed for the APS-C sensor, I have no interest in a 24 x 36 mm sensor. This lack of interest is certainly due to the fact I sold all my lenses designed for 24 x 36 mm media. I am not motivated to use manually stop down lenses for every shot (I lost interest in shooting wide open often a while back).

if the rumors prove both true and complete (IE no additional awesome bits), my reaction would be patent disappointment.

if it's APS-C, make the body much smaller. if you want to keep the body the same size, make it full-frame. the lenses are already pretty big -- improve manual-focus ability would be important/having OEM or 3rd party high-quality MF lenses would help to make it much nicer.

as a fuji afficionado (they've long-since taken on the Leica mantle of being a company interested in making tech advances geared towards photographers rather than just asking their marketing department what they should develop in order to chase sales), I hope they do well and continue making cool stuff. I'm significantly butt-hurt at the fact that Canikon seem decidedly hellbent on making woefully milquetoast cameras and determined to stagnate into nothingness.

As it stands, I'm pretty confident that I will never buy another digital camera (excluding cameras built into phones), but if that proves not to be the case, it would *likely* be Fuji that will get my money...

edit:
also get rid of wifi and the articulating screen. if that's all they add, it's pathetic for "dropping R&D of the XP1S and dedicating all our R&D budget towards the XP2," as they have claimed.

my enthusiast wish-list for add-ons:
-smaller body (maybe a smidge bigger than X100 size)
-move shutter speed dial to "concentric-with-shutter-release-button/overhanging ring" style a la Nikon FG/Leica M5, etc
-faster EVF
-anti-clown mode/Battery Saver mode that disables everything in the OVF except for frame-lines
-speed up eye-proximity OVF/EVF-on sensor
-X100S/XT1-style faux-RF split-prism focus representation
-better shutter noise (not that important but this is a fantasy list, so what the hell)

MUCH SMALLER? ;)

How much is much? It's very nicely sized for the size of the lenses it mounts natively (Fuji lenses).
Improper size is not a complaint I would ever voice for the Xpro1. It suits me perfectly in that regard.
Seriously... how Much is "Much smaller"?

half-way to 2/3rds of the way to X100s. there's really no reason it should be any larger than a film M; ideally it should be marginally/fractionally smaller than a film M.

It's subjective the size issue. I have large hands and long fingers. These bit's need other bits to land on.
For a Camera like a Ricoh GR with no VF and a tiny nearly flush lens.... small size is fine.

I use a the original Fuji grip on the Xpro1 to make it the perfect size for my needs.

Glad someone else has fat fingers.
Have you ever tried to hold or take pictures with a Sony RX100 thing?
For me its like trying to take a photo with a small fish.

Keep referring people to the "Organic Sensor" thing Fuji are developing/patenting.
Read up on that & then tell me you think they will make a full frame camera!
70 megapixel full frame camera.
We would all need a mainframe...................

I don't get this obsession/fad with ever smaller size cameras.
There are far more important things a camera should have than the ability to fit in a shirt pocket.
If you can't lift an XPro 1 ....

From a marketing point of view, I think it's pretty clear that manufacturers wil try to extend innovations gradually. The XP2 is going to be a major upgrade in the body/useability. Then once that is established, the organic sensor comes in, 'encouraging' all the XP2 users to ditch ship.

I think the camera size is perfect. I wish the lenses were smaller. Make them slower if needed, and smaller!

I wouldn't reduce the size, either. My hands are "M/L" in golf glove parlance - so a bit bigger than average but I'm also a bit clumsy. The things I'd do would be to move the exposure compensation dial (or make it harder to move inadvertently with one's thumb) and change the location of the single / continuous frame shoot button where the pinky on my left hand sits.

I bought the additional XPro-1 grip (the one that allows batteries and SD cards to be replaced without having to remove the grip itself) and that has made the camera a whole lot easier to handle - at least for me. As was said earlier, size / handling is a very personal thing.

24mp - check and yes. Might as well as that's the current number for APS-C. The raw numbers for noise will be a little worse but, effectively a little better in use.Would very much like to see what the current lens line up could do with 24mp.

Fuji - please skip what weaklings call "full frame" - Ha! 24x36 Full frame? And go right for digital mirrorless medium format. Fixed lens (as long as it's a REALLY good one - I have no doubts) would be fine for the first effort. The Pentax 645 sensor (51mp) would be fine (I could live with it, although I would prefer a 2x3 format). Reuse a lot of the hardware from the X-Pro2 - like the finder! Wait a minute! Just take the mirror out of an H5D -- you already make (most of) that, yes?

I like how Fuji listened. The last go around people were complaining their X series didn't have an articulated screen. So they added it. Now forum pundits are saying drop the screen and "...I'd be interested." Bull - no one who plays these "yeah, but..." forum games will ever buy one.

Many people said the X series are just right or too small. Now [some] people say "i'd be interested if it were smaller" What, so we can have another plastic credit card stuck to the back of a giant lens?

Fuji is making great products that are being sold. Despite the armchair commentary.
