X-Pro or X-T1 for R-D1 User?

I have a R-D1x (going to sell the R-D1 though) for mostly wide and considering to get into the Fuji system for longer focal length like portrait. Would the 56/1.2 being good in terms of balance on both X-Pro and X-T1? Having a R-D1x already, it's better to have X-T1 rather than X-Pro, am I right? Any advice?

If you want/need an OVF, then the x-pro1 is the way to go. Works for me.

Best way is to go take a look at both at a dealer, see for yourself.

Nothing beats hands on experience in making important decisions like this.

I have tried both at a local dealer and found both comfortable on my hand, just wonder how to choose if I have already a R-D1x, a bit prefer the X-T1 though.

The 56/1.2 balances well on both the XT-1 and X-Pro 1. It is long and wide, but it is not particularly heavy. I pick up the XT-1 with a vertical battery grip when I use the 56/1.2. The 56/1.2 is an excellent lens for this price point... especially wide open. The hood is huge though. I bought a third-party shorter hood as a compromise. I wonder if the hood makes a huge difference given the performance of the Fujinon lens coatings.

With the 56/1.2 the frame lines are a bit small in the X-Pro 1 OVF. I always use the EVF.

As Akiva points out, the OVF can be a real plus for all the primes (except the 56 and 60). I often prefer to use the OVF

I recommend you buy the XT-1. The EVF is excellent. It is large and clear. Some people have issues in very bright light (I don't). Others have issues in very low light (I do). By very low light I mean more than two EV underexposure. This can happen if you focus an adopted lens stopped down. The XT-1 has a face detection AF mode which might be useful for portraits (I've never tried it).

Otherwise, for manual focusing the XT-1's dual-screen display with focus peaking enabled in the zoomed focus window works extremely well. Besides the peaking color changes, you can also see a change in sharpness. With the newer XF lenses (especially the 56/1.2) on the XT-1 I enjoy focusing with the lenses' collars. The lenses with older AF motors and collar-position sensor technology work a bit better on the XT-1. But the older lenses (35/1.4 in particular) are not as enjoyable to focus with the lens collars on either body.

AF works well on both bodies. Again, AF performance on the XT-1 is faster and it's easier to move the AF region around the frame.

I like to use the X-Pro 1 as my daily carry. I use the XT-1 for gigs.

i went from 2 rd1 bodies to an x-pro1…added an xe1 and then sold the x-pro1 and bought another xe1…i have settled on 2 xe1 bodies with 23 and 56 lenses…for me, it is perfect!

You seem to get on well with those Joe. I've been considering parting with the Xpro for the Xe2 purely for the weight difference. I got the X100 as a replacement for the old RF cameras and that still great for me. The Xpro is now feeling like a DSLR in size and weight and thought going to the Xe2 would help. That's said I'm not sure about the EVF. Got both the. X100 and Xpro coz of the OVF. Dunno if I'd get along with EVF full time. Do you find them okay.

To the OP, Conrad, I moved from the RD1 to the Xpro and thought it a good move. You'll find it an easy enough switch. Even used my old CV lenses on it and they were fine too.

i would have stayed with the xpro1 except for 2 things…no diopter adjustment and i prefer the smaller size of the xe1.
if i ever start working again i think i'd move to 2 xe2 bodies for the improved evf and af.
i do not miss the ovf at all.
of the current 3 fuji body types…the e gives the most rf feeling of all.

I use to have a R-D1s but sold it because of a problem with my right eye I can't manual focus anymore. Currently I own both the X-Pro1 and the X-T1. Love them both, but they give a quite different experience. Don't own the 56 -yet- but currently use the 18-23-35mm on the X-Pro1 and the 14-60mm on the X-T1.
I love the form factor of the X-Pro1 and the OVF is really great for wide and looking beside the image but can't really cope with the 14-60mm. The EVF of the X-T1 is remarkable. Sometimes I even forget it is not glass. the X-T1 AF is superior to the X-Pro1 and makes focusing with the 60mm acceptable.
If I had none and had to choose today it would be the X-T1 but you have to make up your mind yourself.

Being a Leica M fan I thought the OVF of the PRO would suit me very well. But I like the advantages opf the EVF so much I never use the OVF. In hindsight i would never have bought the pro.
