X-Pro1 Thumb Rest

I've searched and found no good thumb rest available from Match Technical or Lensmate. Just cheap ones that may damage the camera or be too short. It's as though they had a production run and figure not enough X-Pro1s will be sold to justify more being made.

MT seems to do this sometimes, and I don't know why. For some reason, they abandoned the wraparound X100 type too.

Keep an eye open for a used "real" one. They are fantastic with the stock grip and a wrist strap.

I love my thumbs up - however, it seems there is a design flaw in the way Fuji installed the hotshoe on the XPro1, which can cause it to loosen or fall off entirely - either from flash use, or as I've discovered, too much torque on the thumb-grip. :/

Not a huge deal for me, I don't use the hotshoe otherwise, but I miss the thumbs-up now that I cannot use it.

Has anyone else had this happen, and had good luck with Fuji repair? I've heard numbers as high as $500 to fix - which, given that I can buy a used XPro1 for about that, I'm hesitant to spend.

Should I just JB weld it in place as a cold shoe?

Sorry, but I haven't had that problem. In fact, I've acquired a second X-Pro1 and fitted it with a cheap knockoff which seems to work almost as well as the more expensive ones. It also remains firmly in place with just a friction fit.

I saw this orphan thread...so I thought I'd provide a substitute reply.

Here's the cheap knockoff I got off 'zon... 😱 It seems a bit longer than most cheap knockoff thumb grips, ergo better for the X-Pro1.

I use a small 1/2" adhesive cork "foot" in place of the ThumbsUp. It gives just enough support and can be placed exactly at the right spot. I have one on my X100, Pro1 as well as my M9. When they get too scroungy looking or worn, just peel them off and clean the area with some alky and replace.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with this by now but I'll add it to the thread. Lensmate now has a folding thumb rest for the XP2 that fits the XP1 perfectly--about $60 and well worth it in my opinion. For less money, Amazon sells a cheap model called DSLRKIT that's pretty good as well, just a bit short for the XP models.
