Hello RF fans,

Now it may just be the cough syrup and spray glue talking but I've got an idea.

I have in my hands a very nice Minolta Mi-Matic 7s. Nice enough camera in pretty decent shape.

Could I possibly leave it as is and just enjoy shooting with it once in a while?

Of course I could but that pesky little devil on my shoulder keeps needling my ass with his pitch fork while urging me to give the 7s a makeover. And he's not suggesting any old makeover. No mild mannered "paint it black" project. Oh, no, he's talking electric blue with red leather. He's talking champagne sparkle with neoprene...he's talking CRAZY!

So, let's add fuel to the fire shall we?

Give me your ideas to an X-treme Hi-matic makeover.

I will take all into consideration, then post photos of the results.

Deal?

Colour is a personal matter. I think the High-Matic deserves some respect, personally I wouldn't paint one with extreme tones.
Maybe you could change the leatherete with a more "personalised" colour or textures that you can combine with a modern Extreme Strap.
If I where to paint a camera I would paint it Black. It's the dream of the silver camera.
BTW welcome to the forum.

Okay,
The chrome finish on the Hi-Matic is very nice. There were Black Hi-Matic 7s'. There were not any Olive Green or Hammer-Tone Grey, as some of the more expensive cameras were finished. It would add an air of distinctiveness to a genre of camera often overlooked.

I say that there are a gazillion Hi-Matics out there, so it is not like you'd be gutting a Philco Predicta or something. I like Brian's idea - hammertone grey would be VERY classy. No idea on the leather - but then again, I'm color-blind. I tend to stick with B&W and shades of grey.

"I see a red door and I want it painted black."

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

PS - And welcome to RFF!

Zebra!

Zebra!

Paint the top black, the bottom white, and add zebra-stripe leather in the middle. Make sure the finishes of the paints match the approximate reflectivity of the leather (gloss, semi-gloss, flat). And get some red powder coating on the film advance lever.

Hey, it's your camera!
So paint it a nice "Bass-Boat-Red" metal flake with some of that black, grippy steering wheel cover for the vinyl.

How about having all the metal dipped in bright chrome with a nice rich corinthian leather covering.

I'm partial to a nice camoflauge body covering and Olive colored topplate and bottomplate.

I hear Fur is on the comeback, what about beaver to replace the vinyl, or better yet porcupine (it'll never be stolen).

Mine is all-black, and I think the hammer-tone grey is a great suggestion. I'm not real fond of the look of the olive/black Bessas, so it's a no to olive or a camo derivative. The white. black, zebra idea has real merit, though. Being a fan of the EPL, I think the white/black look is very Toon. Do it.

Welcome to the forum!
I would agree with the "it's your camera"school. Plus,as has been said, there are a bunch of these around.
How about this: there are some refractive paints(reflective? color changing I mean) that are fairly pale over-all but show different colors depending on the light. I think VW used one on the new beetle when they first came out. And to contrast the paint..umm..dead black neoprene? If you've got a lens cap...gold plate?
Add a really sturdy strap so no one can swipe it too easily(you know somebody's gonna want it)
Please show us all what you end up doing to and with this camera!
