On the Leica blog.

The article is not hugely in depth from a technical perspective but does speak of the challenges encountered by the development team in constructing the new X-Vario.

I think this camera appeals to a crowd that appreciates the convenience of a variable focal length lens in a compact package, but can be a bit put-off by the lower IQ of other compact zooms in the market.

I hope Leica continues developing this system, and would hope to see a weather sealed version of the X line in the future.

Cheers,

Hi, it looks like a cruel joke...perhpas designing a faster lens could have been more easy than the final "demanding" solution...:D

I think it really delivers high quality images, but since it´s gonna be a huge comercial disaser i´ll buy one when it falls under 1k...or if sigma doesn´t launch a short zoom solution...

:)

Don't know that it's going to be a huge commercial disaster. I've heard of more people buying the X Vario, and posting glorious praise of its imaging qualities with pictures to back it up, than I ever saw from the X1 or X2 ...
