Just saw the one on UK EBay. The guy's only had it three days and prefers his Nikon. Why buy it in the first place? He's already managed to put a couple of scratches on it too.
I'm waiting for my local dealer to get stock. He's in negotiation with Fuji as he's only a small dealer so I assume he has to do some begging so that it isn't just the big boys who have first option.

The best camera is one that still works!

LOL ... that's consumerism for you!
He's not the first and I'm sure he won't be the last, to buy a new toy then change his mind.

I've been one of the most pro-X100 guys, put my deposit in at Precision last month and everything.
But with the Earthquake and delays, I've talked myself out of it. And digital in general. I was editing the last take, a shoot I did with the old G1 I had already sold to Gordy (haha thanks) and was thinking about how much I missed VueScan and handling tiny strips of 35mm film... no seriously!
So I am now digital free (wife has a P&S and a D60 just in case...) and back to shooting 35mm and 4x5 film 100%. For a little while at least....
Maybe by mid-Summer the X100 and other compact digitals will be sorted out. I suspect this quake is going to set the Japanese camera industry back quite a ways, and prices will increase too... Enter Samsung?

That's my difficulty, this is as close as the manufactures have got to the digital I actually want ... yet I'm still attached to the artefact, that little 24x36 rectangle of plastic that was struck by the actual photons that bounced of the subject perhaps years earlier.
I know it's really silly but it's a real digital deterrent for me.

The headline here is that production has been halted. But who knows how many are in the supply chain, sitting on the dock somewhere?

I missed the boat on other sites, so I pre-ordered on B&H as well. Usually B&H opens a hot new item for pre-order via phone before they open the uncontrollable floodgates of the Internet. They charge your card for the full amount, not a deposit, however, and this would give pause to the people who have pre-ordered on several sites simultaneously.

Problem is what dock. anything that left japan is sure to filter through if it's still there odds are if it wasn't lost to damage at a port it will be quite a while.
I had put my purchase on hold in any case after a spate of other recent purchases

According to the @FujiGuys there are some already on the way to North America, but a more limited supply than expected:
"@TheKeyCam Limited initial shipments are already on route to North America (US/CAN). Very limited.. Not our requested shipment from Tokyo."

Wonder how good customer support will be if there is a problem? Firmware and parts may be unavailable for a while.
It's a shame even though it is a very tiny part of a huge problem caused by this disaster. But the shear magnitude of the hit to the Japanese and the World's economy is going to be on par with 9-11, if not greater.

Yep, I saw the email from B and H. I went to the website but I just could not click the PreOrder button.

I put in the Email notification when first available, but have an order in with Precision. Late to the game there, but I'm figuring that there might be an advantage to getting the camera in a few months.

Man I'm glad I got my order in. I just hope Aperture updates RAW compatibility in time. Otherwise I'm shooting Provia mode all the way!
I'm thinking about selling my Canon 5D2 kit for a cheaper DSLR. I just don't need this camera, and don't enjoy using it.

I got in on this early this morning. Now this evening I notice that the pre-order is turned off. I'm guessing that those of us that pulled the trigger will be getting a new camera once it arrives in NYC.

I received this email from B&H yesterday. It doesn't explicitly say that they aren't receiving cameras soon, but it leaves it open to that possibility. I'll still hold on to my order since I believe if they are in this position, so are all the other US retailers and I'm fairly sure I'm very near the front of the line at B&H.
Dear Valued Customer:
B&H received the following note regarding availability of the Fujifilm FinePix X100 today from Fujifilm USA. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. We are mindful, though, of Japan's human tragedy, which is ongoing and will remain so for some time. Lives are lost and families are homeless on a scale which seems, from news reports, as great or greater than any natural disaster in memory.
FUJIFILM FinePix X100 Statement
March 16, 2011
Due to the March 11th earthquake that affected northeast Japan, the factory responsible for production of the new Fujifilm FinePix X100 digital camera has been temporarily shut down due to safety concerns. FUJIFILM is currently assessing the factory conditions as well as accessibility via domestic logistics and working to determine the potential impact on the X100 market availability and initially scheduled release dates. FUJIFILM is making every effort to quickly gather the information needed to provide an accurate update to our retail partners and consumers. FUJIFILM appreciates your patience and will provide a formal update as soon as possible.
We understand that under the circumstances you may wish to consider canceling your order; if you do, a full refund will be issued. If you would like to cancel your order, please reply to this message with your instruction to cancel.
B&H Photo regrets this inconvenience and appreciates your patronage and understanding.
Sincerely,
B&H Photo-Video, and Pro-Audio

And now from dpreview forums, a post by Henry from B&H in response to a question:
Q: I am confused, are some cameras in transit already and will some orders be filled? If so I will wait and keep my order. Can you clarify whether some cameras are already in
A:Right now we do not expect any in the near future.
