X100 File Naming Mystery

Before the Ver. 1.20 firmware upgrade my jpeg files were named "_DSF". After the upgrade they are now named "DSCF".

Is there any significance to this? Did I inadvertently change a setting?

It is not a new phenomenon, I have files with_DSF from May to 16 June last year. After then all are DSCF.

I don't know the reason but maybe it was after a firmware update.


I hadn't noticed before as I import directly into LR and do everything from there.

How do you preprocess your camera jpgs before opening in PWP ?
Normally no profiles are embedded in camera jpgs, only a marker in the EXIF data is set, and the filemane is different (_dsf####.jpg for AdobeRGB instead of dscf####.jpg for SRGB at my Fuji, for example).
Do you use a Nikon software for downloading your pictures that may embedd the Nikon profile ?
I download my pictures with a cardreader with no special software and embedd the approriate profile (sRGB or AdobeRGB) with InProfile to the JPEGs, so i have the correct profile embedded in every file.

On the X100 there is a menu option for colour space, changing this changes the filename prefix.

Previously you had Adobe RGB, now you have sRGB set.


I don't know which one I should be using for LR but my pictures are OK on sRGB.

Perhaps an expert could advise.

Thanks greyelm! I knew one of you resident geniuses would come up with the answer! Very true, I had Adobe color space set and the upgrade reverted to SRGB in the same annoying way it resets the frame counter.

I just found this on the web that recommends sRGB, I understand that the author isn't universally agreed with but his explanation leads me to keep the X100 on sRGB.

Yep, I think I'll give it a try, sRGB, that is. Ken is sometimes way out there and opinionated. But, I tend to agree with him on many things (such as there is no real reason for most shooters to photograph in RAW unless they just like to play). I also followed up on recommendations for stock shooting to retain colors — sRGB, again.
