The best camera is one that still works!
And whan it gets here there's all the "I just got my X100 ... my impressions." threads to look forward to!
Not to mention I've now started a thread about the threads ... what sort of despot does something like that?
Guilty as charged!

My thoughts exactly Keith, lets start a thread about all the threads!

...and the threads to prove it handles higher ISO shots better than the M8:bang:, plus the 'show us your cat taken with the X100' threads.:bang:
When it was first announced I was intrigued, now I'm bored...which is good because I won't rush out and buy one only to wish later that I'd held off and got a later one with some of the problems ironed out, which reminds me...they'll be the inevitable 'problems with your X100' thread.:bang:

Whatever one's thoughts on all this though you can't discount the fact that the interest in this thing is phenominal!
Storm in a teacup, or have Fuji been really clever ... I can't decide?

I was more excited when this thread was just a dream. I was really looking forward to it.
Now I can see, and interact with it, I'm frankly a bit disappointed. It doesn't live up to my expectations.

Has any product, camera or otherwise, ever had so many enthusiastic beta testers? I guess for many the M8 was a very expensive mistake if you didn't like it ... $1200 is a lot less embarrasing if you finish up not liking the X100!
We have a thread currently asking which direction will you set your lens focus rotation?

Are you talking about the camera, or this thread!

If you think this is bad just wait until it's a great success, then Canon and Nikon will have to respond and anounce their versions ... it will make "Best bag for X100?" look almost normal.

I just realized digital camera has to be fully customizable becuse of it's software-based nature. What I mean by this? User should be able to set direction for focus and aperture rings to match it's preferred habit. Sequence of distance and aperture values? That's easy, use tiny backlit LCD's for each figure and so camera can display appropriate scales.
Status LCD on top of camera should be able to show symbols of choice, not only what is programmed in firmware. I mean, some will prefer different settings and info that others to be seen while shooting.
Fn buttons currently used on cameras are just early birds. Digital should do more than now!
UPD: Just like people can make their own configuration of OS and look of desktop, photographers would appreciate freedom to customize their software driven photographic tools to communicate and work the way they prefer.

there was more blood on the carpet back then, but Leica didn't have anything like Greg and Billy
BTW ... I think Greg would win in a fight, easy

Hmm ... I do remember the M8 threads used to get very nasty. There seems to be a bit of a zero tolerance attitude by management to that sort of thing around here now!

I think the most glaring omission in the whole design brief was to leave out the tiny battery-powered heating element in the battery compartment (of course) which would keep the battery at optimum operating temperature in very cold weather.
The second generation was to warm the whole camera so you didn't need gloves to go out and use it in freezing weather. I mean, it's so obvious.....
Maybe we could start a thread about that and all the other necessary improvements to the yet-to-be-delivered initial model?

Hehehe!
Watch it Keith, you will upset all the Stockholm Syndrome Patients out there.
I remember back just before the Olympus E-P1 was launched and had borderline death threats from a couple of cranks on here for merely suggesting that it might be better to wait for a VF for it before hailing it such a great camera.
On another forum meanwhile, one stalwart member was going to hardly ever us his Nikon D3 and glorious range of Nikkor glass once he got his hands on the then mythical Olympus E-P1.
We really need another No Gear Talk day.
