Hi guys, I just got my X100 and did a quick comparison with my GH2. I really want to like this camera as much as I liked my Leica M4-2 back in the film days, but .....it is a great little tool, too bad the af and write times shooting raw is kinda sluggish...

hope this is helpful, ask questions.
cheers,

Mike, I have the GF-2 and the X100. Do I really need both? No, but I love the X100 and will use them for different purposes. The macro feature on the X100 produces excellent bokeh for me at F/2. I'm having a lot of fun with that camera! Tom

I have a G1, GF1 and X100 although I will be passing on the G1 to my son. The G series is great for using adapted lenses and this is why I will keep my GF1 however I love the X100. Its IQ is superb and the form factor makes it an ideal walkabout camera. To reduce write times get the fastest SD card you afford, turn off review. You don't have to wait for the write to finish just keep firing (try it). If the AF is problematic try zone focussing, after all this is what HCB did. I've had my X100 for two weeks and it is now becoming second nature to use. Keep at it.

Try before you buy!

I am seriously unimpressed with the X100, having finally handled one. Image quality looks to be the real deal, but the camera itself feels like junk. It feels more like a Leica Digilux than the M series camera Fuji emulated (copied). I'm sure it's useful, but the camera is not responsive enough nor built solidly enough to justify the $1200 price tag.

GH2 all the way. At least that camera knows what it is.

So, you expect Leica M quality for 20% of the price? It is built no worse than any other $1200 camera (lens included). I think people had way too many unrealistic expectations when it came to the X100.

I've played with them all and have been a big fan of the G1 with qualifications... but Panasonic has managed to make the G-series a little bit worse with each iteration. The GH-2 is the nicest of the lot but it doesn't feel like that great an upgrade, the G1 is an incredible value and still a very valid camera with the old kit zoom and the primes. If only they made a decent AF portrait lens and a nicer body that had man-sized controls I'd settle with that camera forever.

I want to like the X100 but I'll wait until the X101 or whatever. It's got some great ideas but it reminds me why buying the first generation product is usually a bad idea. Unless it is made by Panasonic hahaha....

It just proves to me that camera marketing intelligence is non-existant. How companies can invest millions into products with such obvious disconnects is beyond me. They all are trying to make the same mass-market camera and only compete against dozens of other nearly identical products... why they can't identify a few niches - like the X100 attempts to do -- is a huge miss opportunity.

Frankly they ought to be making kids and Elder-friendly cameras that don't suck, Droid interfaces, etc. they're stupid.

Agree with Frank, the G1 is amazing value, it's just so cheap second user, with that great EVF and everything. To me, the other m43 cameras are cool, but some are just crazy expensive.

You cannot compare the X100 with the GH2.
The X100 is a completely different concept I think. First of all because of it's optical viewfinder.
What's great about the X100 is it's great image quality. Much better than the GH2.
Look at the tests on dpreview. The X100 compares easily with for instance the D7000.
Next to that it's small and easily to carry with you.
The AF is not the quickest but it suits me fine.

the x100 build quality is lacking? really?

i have been using one (x100) for a few weeks and find the build very solid. i am rough on the cameras and it seems to take the abuse with little concern.
