X100, X100s or X100T...??

I currently have an X100. It's my digital carry-round camera. I have a nice brown leather case and the lens hood for it and I've been very pleased with the results. There's a big part of me that says I should just ignore all that's been written about upgrades to the X100S and X100T. Then there's a little gremlin saying "well, all these guys can't be wrong; you should look to upgrade".

Money issues aside (I doubt I'd get much as a trade from X100 to X100T) what would an X100T do for me that my X100 cannot do? My main genres are street and travel. I use the X100 as a photographic notebook; photos good enough in themselves to use / post - but also as a visual record of somewhere I'd like to come back to and shoot with my Hasseblad / Fuji GW690 III or whatever.

I'm not fussed about the specification detail per-se; I'm more interested in the benefits that such differences would make in a practical, hands-on sense.

I think that all of us with the X100"classic" have similar thoughts now and then.
Sleep it off. Rethink it again, when your X100 dies. :D

MF improvement doesn't really matter to me as I shoot the X100 like a Hexar AF, center-AF
1/3 stop aperture doesn't matter to me either as I actually prefer full stops

X-Trans II vs CMOS, I went back to an X100 instead of X100s for a reason, I prefer the CMOS files more than the X-TransII, 16MP is nice but I can live with 12MP

IMO the biggest improvement that the X100T has over the X100 is the AF speed, it's much faster and accurate, especially in low light.

I will buy an X100T only if I lose my X100

I have the original as well.. Plan to keep it till it dies. I have the new xt1 as well. I didn't c a need to upgrade to the x100s. The x100t has two hw based improvements that to me that make it tempting..
- faster af
- the little evf overlay window of the focus area that can be optionally displayed in the ovf.
-- this should help confirm what u are focusing on as u get closer (arms length or so)
-- not sure how much I would use it at normal shooting distance

For me, the xt1 has eliminated any gas for a x100 replacement. For myself, I can just keep using my current x100 classic and c what the next gen will bring.

If the x100 is still going strong when I am ready to replace, I am thinking about downing what others have done and convert the x100 to full spectrum.

Good luck
Gary

I forgot a possible hw feature...the xt1 not only has electronic shutter but unlike other implementations where it restricts u to using one or the other, the Fuji implementation allows both.. Called ms+es... It usings electronic above 4000th otherwise mechanical. I love thus feature on the xt1.

Fuji es implementation is also the fastest at 1/32000..

? Gary ?
does that mean to include infra-red light sensitivity ??

We can do better than "full spectrum," Dave. My plan is to convert the X100 to a Cap'n Kirk phazer with both the "stun" and "kill settings, which should prove particularly useful in dodgy low-light neighborhoods. Wall Street around 5pm in the winter, for instance.

Anyway, I already have IR conversion with me old EP1/20 1.7.

Hey, I work down there and get out at 5!

I have an X100s and I'd love to upgrade to the X100T. I think the differences are worth it but for now, I can't afford it. For you, having an X100, I'd say yes, if you can afford to buy the X100T, then go for it. You won't regret it.

John, John, John. You're not a Borg or Klingon, and unless my intuition is way off, not an "investment" banker in a $2K suit with a $1K briefcase containing a letter about a $150K "bonus" for service above and far far beyond the good of the citizenry in advancing the mission of global capitalism.

I don't think there was ever an episode of classic Trek about the latter. It ain't like The Trouble with Tribbles.

Come to think of it, my X100 conversion would be more compatible with the "Mars Attacks" raygun...

You do have a way with words, Robert.
I've the feeling you have been reviewing your 401(k) statement for 2014 :p

I sold my X100 and upgraded to the T. It was money well spent IMO and I have zero regrets. AF reliability alone was worth the cost.

Then there's the Wifi which I use often to transfer photos over to my phone for quick shares. The manual focus, if you did decide to use it, is worlds ahead of the X100 in usability, especially when combined with the extra focus patch/window thing that the T has. I'd be perfectly comfortable using it in MF mode all day if I were so inclined. +-3 on the ev dial is a nice addition too. The Q button makes it easy to access some menus quickly. Also, the black paint. :D

They will get my X100 from me when they pry it from my cold dead hands. Or when it goes to the big mirrorless cloud in the sky.

Have an X100 with the latest software. Don't have any plans to upgrade as it was a great camera when I bought it and still is. I often wished I had taken it to Scotland instead of the M9. It weighs a lot less and I cursed the weight of the photo equipment on the 100 mile hike across the Highlands.

It is still one of the best cameras for travel available.

Seriously, though, I don't understand the "full spectrum" comment.
Anyone ?

Full spectrum means that u can use the camera to take normal pictures w/ a uv+ir filter like the one that the Leica m8 needed in front of their lens or be able to choose the ir range such as 680nm vs 715 vs 850.

One of our rff members on his blog site themachineplanet, Dante Stella, did this w/ his old x100.. He has a very good writeup on it.

http://themachineplanet.wordpress.com/2014/01/27/fuji-x100-the-pitch-black-project/

He has another post about 2-3 weeks later about some ir results using a specific ir filter w/ it.

Like Robert, I have a m43 epl1 converted to ir 715nm. For me the big advantage to a fs is to be able to use the same camera for both normal and ir work just be using a different lens filter.
