X100T, no menu on LCD when in VF only view mode?

I got my X100T this evening, have a question. Typically when in viewfinder only in display mode, the menu, drive, Q displays will appear on the LCD. Now the only way I can get it to appear is to toggle the display mode to either LCD only or eye controlled, neither of which is very good from a workflow standpoint.

Is this an issue with my camera or did Fuji just screw the pooch by omitting this obvious need....or am I missing something?

Think you are missing something :)

I just spent an awful lot of time totally customizing my view screens and my Q menu screen.

It's worth a trip to the manual to go through the drill, but in a quick reply...remember that both the VR screen and LCD screen have separate setups...Not really that tough to sort out by just going down all the menu choices and selecting what you want.

Hope this solves it for you.

Tom

I have been through the manual and menus like 6 times and what you're referring to is not what I am talking about...

Basically, I never used the X100 or X100S in anything but viewfinder only mode so in other words, normally when I push the menu button, it shows up on the LCD, not in the viewfinder as with the X100T.

Having it only display these items in the VF when in VF only mode is not going to work, it's incredibly disruptive to a normal workflow. This would be like only being able to see the menu on the LCD when in Live View or only in the viewfinder when not on a DSLR....totally insane...

I've had this happen unexpectedly several times with my X100. Can't remember how I get out of it. And certainly have no idea how I got into it. Conceivably inadvertent pressing of some button when carrying it.

I will call Fuji in a bit, I see no way to fix this after hours of trying.

Unfortunately this is a deal breaker for me until they can issue a firmware update. I have my X100S up for sale, I might need to pull it from the ad.

Damn.

Yeah, I tried it this morning and couldn't figure it out for you either. The thing that bothers me the most is that I cannot disable the command dial...I guess a piece of electrical tape will have to do.

why is it not surprising that every fuji camera has these weird issues that either become introduced / never seem to get fixed. their QA seems to be lacking. like on the x-e1 even after the latest updates, zooming in on portrait orientation images still has black bars on the sides. or the weird X100 2.00 focusing bug that was fixed.

this is one of the main reasons i'm glad i have moved away from the fuji system. after using canons for a while it's nice to have things that work properly all the time.

Gentlemen, it seems like mountains are being made of molehills here. I have a X100T and the rare times I need to access the menus while in VF mode, I find it no problem to press the View Mode button to transfer the menu to the LCD and then go back to VF when finished. To ditch such a fine camera for this reason alone feels like a over-reaction to this happy Fuji user.

In all fairness, KM-25 is a working photographer so he may have different needs than many of us.

I only use the X100 series ( or any digital ) for specific jobs, not personal work so I often change the drive mode, white balance, ISO from fixed to auto, etc and have come to expect it all to work roughly the same as to not draw attention to my self. So for example, when on the fly with the X100T and wanting to go back to auto ISO or Auto WB, I now either have to stop and look through the viewfinder or do a button dance in order to accomplish this via the view modes.

Big five digit shoot for a well known celebrity tonight....this is just not going to work. Fuji is not picking up the phone so the camera stays home...

I have the original x100 only, so not sure if any of this has changed. Would the following compromise work for u?

View mode - eye sensor
LCD mode - info only.

When u hit the menu button, the menus come up depending on what u are using. This is my default mode for the x100.

I'm not sure I understand - you want the Q screen visible constantly on the LCD while the Viewfinder is used only to compose/shoot ?

I think the ergonomic constraint is that the Q menu uses the 4 way switch on the back which in viewfinder mode is also used as function buttons

1. if you need Q mode , you can hit the Q button an see it in the viewfinder or on the back (in eye sensor mode) but you can't have Q mode visible on the back but not in the viewfinder AFAIK

2. What's the issue with using the function buttons for the most frequently changed settings ? then the menu pops up in the viewfinder as an overlay

I'm trying to understand why this is important to you

It's been pretty well explained above, not sure what else to tell you other than it is less about the Q readout and more about other things like frame rate, ISO and other modes that I swap often.

In any case, I used the camera last night and tried my best to deal with needing to bury my eye in the VF to change a setting, not good but I managed. I'm sure Fuji will fix this in a firmware update, it's uber lame.

I'm in the same situation you are. I had a shoot with the X100T the other day. This is "issue" is a bit of a change from the X100. But I think it's a matter of what you are used to. But I agree this and the darn auto-dimming framelines in the OVF are things I would like to see addressed in a firmware update.
