I like your philosophical introduction, although it did call to mind the spoof camera reviewer Ikanagas, whose YouTube Noctilux review warned about white pictures taken at 1.0. He recommended the even numbers for aperture...
I have enjoyed the quicker focussing with my X100 with the latest firmware and I am still resisting upgrading.

Ikanagas is a comic genius (though still a bit subtle for some people). He's like the Borat of video reviewers. He's also about as technologically sophisticated as most people Fuji has writing their ads, I mean, reviews.
The superstition thing actually came from reading things on photo.net way back when. I've also seen people claim that even Nikons and odd Leicas are better. De gustibus!
