X2: all Summarits create equal?

Almost sold on the Leica X2, mainly for its simplicity but also for the sensor and lens combination. I did a little digging around on the Leica this lens. It seems to have been a pretty successful, albeit discontinued, M-mount lens. But how similar are these lenses - or do the similarities end with the name?

So both are Summarit 24mm f2.8, but:
M-mount - 7 elements in 5 groups
X2 - 8 elements in 6 groups

Unfortunately I cannot locate lens diagrams for both. I think this is the M-mount from Puts

Can anyone track down a copy for the X2 Summarit. Also can anyone provide more information?

Mmm....I am confused. The Leica X cameras do not use Summarit lenses. It is a fixed lens, and not an M-mount. They use the Elmarit 24mm 2.8 (35mm equiv), an excellent lens. As in superb IQ!!!

Exactly!

The OP would do well to consider the results of the Elmarit lens...real world images produced by photographes as the links show. It would be a mistake to take any technical review on the lens itself as the trigger to buy the X2.

In the end, what the whole package does for your work ( camera, lens, accessories, ergonomics, portability, aesthetics, and much more....) is the real measure.🙂

Like the OP, even in Atlanta, one cannot just go try one out before one buys a Leica anything.

The OP could buy yours, John...if you still have it!

Thanks guys. Oh I have little doubt about the lens's capabilities but was curious if the shared focal length, aperture and name meant that the lenses shared the same formula. A mere curiousity is all.

Leica habitually uses names to describe speeds, not designs. Thus Noctilux (f/0.95 or f/1 or f/1.2), Summilux (f/1.4), Summicron (f/2), Summarit (f/2.5 in the modern incarnation), Elmar/Elmarit (f/2.8-f/4).

Older lenses are another matter: Thambar, Telyt, Hektor, Summaron, Summitar...
