XA Battery check not working, any tips?

I have the bottom off my XA for a light seal renewal and while I'm in there does anybody know if there is anything that can be done to get the battery check working? The camera works, the meter meters, the self timer works (but no flashing light), but the switch positions for backlight and the battery check don't. The contacts are clean and look good.

Any help or directions to a solution would be much appreciated,

If backlight position also does not work (shifts meter needle about 1.5 stops) then I suspect something like main circuit, switch wiring. IF PCV (poly-ceramic-vibrator, which makes the "beep") in top cover is bad, you would have to replace entire top or get a good pcv out of a junk camera. I have new XA tops in stock. John
