Jon - take it easy. Why not sit back and relax. Some people think half-cases for Ms are silly, too. Pocket the XA? "Is that a camera in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?" And the pocket fluff gets on the lens. And my pockets are already too full with keys, phone etc.
Ian - welcome to the forum. I'm sure Luigi could make you a fine pouch for your Oly; perhaps there are also some local leatherworkers you could talk with.

Never used it when I had it. PITA... always in the way. However it does satisfy a leather fetish.

Ian, if you're not a fashion freak, go to a camera shop and look at some of the pouches sold for digital point and shoot cameras. My XA fits nicely in a pouch I bought for a little p&s.
About stuffing cameras in pockets: I dunno about you, but I go around most of the time wearing jeans and some kind of pullover. If I'm wearing a coat, it's a windbreaker. If it is cold enough to wear a real coat, I'm probably staying indoors.
All that's preface to wondering about the oft-repeated cliche that such-and-such, fitted out with a pancake whatever lens, slides easily into a pocket.
Come on. Who has room in their pockets for something almost 6x2x2, with a lens poking out of it? Are those people walking around in tweed sportcoats with suede elbow patches?

Obviously guys here have a variety of likes and dislikes - Jon thinks a leather case for an XA a joke: kazano supplies you with a picture of the leather case that Olympus made for the XA range.
I have one of these cases - looks nice and has magnetic fastners. The XA with flash fits beautifully. And that's the problem - the camera is very difficult to remove. Its a nice storage case but in my opinion useless in the field.
I've picked up a padded case made for a digital camera and its fine - good padding and slips onto my belt. I could fit a shoulder strap if I wanted. Its ideal for me. The camera is safe, easy to get at, and well protected. I don't fancy putting it into my pocket along with my change and car keys.

I don't think it's a bad idea since I carry my XA in a belt pouch that is a perfect fit. It's a (discontinued) Ambico pouch that has a flap top that secures via Velcro; works extremely well and will even accommodate an extra roll of film if you so desire. GeneW carries one of these since I had a spare and I gave it to him. He agrees with me. 😀
Anyway, I also have a leather (light tan) case that is also a belt case. The belt loop is not secure enough, though; it has a snap that just isn't strong enough, so I'm going to use epoxy to make the snap a "permanent" attachment. I may wear one on one side with an XA ensconced, and the other on the other side with an XA2. Was it Hopalong Cassidy that had dual six-shooters? Hopalong Trius rides! 😀 😀

Well thanks for all the advice,I never thought it would provke so much thought.
Its just that I have seen the original leather pouch and it stops the camera getting bashed when in my bike luggage,currently using a 'bubblewrap' bag ,the cheapest camera bag available.
Luigi made a great case for my Leica,and would do something for the XA.
The XA is a great little camera,I have 3,one I dropped and Luton cameras,in Bristol, fixed the meter,but wouldnt charge me.It still works fine.
One has a slow shutter,intermittantly,despite being serviced.
The most recent one is near perfect,with all original purchase documentation! for £31!

Ian: The Oly case is designed to house the XA with the A11 flash attached. For carrying only XA it's OK, but at that point it seems a bit bulky unless you fill the remaining space with a roll of film. Even at that, it's a horizontal design which is not, to me, as utilitarian as a vertically oriented case. The latter is better, IMO, because it allows the XA's wrist strap to hang outside the pouch. That seems to me to be more utilitarian.

I went to BestBuy today to pick up a new cordless phone. I saw at least 4 cases that would work well with the XA.
To case or not to case - fewer dust bunnies work their way into the lens with an XA that is cased. The clamshell body isn't as dust proof as it looks.

I just received an Olympus Trip 35 in the mail today. Nice camera, but even better.
It came with the leather pouch that was sold with new Trip 35's ...
It's leather
It's black
It has the name Olympus embossed on the front.
It is just a bit larger than an Olympus XA... my XA fits in it with just enough extra space to not be as much of a tight fit as the XA leather case was.
The only downside, it has a metal zipper, which I would presume might be malfunctioned on some your may find.
This one happens to have all the stitching intact and the zipper works great. I will probably not carry my XA in it, since the Trip needs the protection more on the lens and to keep the Selenium meter from light.
However, if you can find one either with or without a camera, it would be excellent for you and it would be an Olympus product.

I have a solution,I bought an XA1 which has the original leather case with it on Ebay, now I have an XA1, the really basic XA camera,I will try it out for fun.
