XE-1 + 27/2.8 . . What do you think?

I'm back in the Nikon DSLR camp and quite satisfied, especially for stock applications, but . . .

I miss my X-Pro1 and wonderful Fuji lenses. I've been thinking of adding a small point and shoot for cycling and just general carrying around. It then occurred to me that for the same price as some of these little wonders I could get an new XE-1 and new 27/2.8. I'd have that sensor that I love in a very small footprint. I know there's no lens aperture ring and the viewfinder diopter adjustment only goes to +2 where I could use a +3.

Still, it seems like the best compromise on a budget. Yes? No?

Good camera for that. I sold my Leica M8, bought a used X-Pro1 and never looked back. I just bought the 27 2.8 yesterday. That would be a nice combo. I'm also considering and XE-1 also for the price.

No. Look for some second hand XE-2. There are really many improvements in the XE-2 vs the XE-1.

The 27/2.8 is excellent - but don't get an XE-1 now.

Dick if you only plan to use the 27mm lens I would say yes go for the XE1.
The images output is identical to the XE2/XT1 (and your old Xpro1).
As a companion Camera it seems great. An XE1 and 27mm combo just sold in the rff classified for $500. Ebay seems similar.
That's less than an x100s by about half which uses the same sensor and comes in about the same size.

xe-2 might be better but i'm still happy with my 2 xe-1 bodies…the 27 is a great little lens…for less money but more bulk the 16-50 is a great all around lens too.

I have the X-E1 / 27mm setup. It is very very nice for "banging around". If you don't have an X100, go with this setup and have fun.

Cannot comment on the XE1 / XE2 comparison.

Dave's comparison is what I was going to point to. Also Angelo's FS XE/27, now apparently sold at a gift- horse price. But I'm late as usual. Still I can second and third some of the motions on the floor.

I also agree with Andy and Joe that there's no reason to get an XE2 unless you're set on that--which does not appear to be the case.

I should edit the highlighted part of my above sentence ^^ for accuracy. The X100s uses the xtrans2 Sensor where the XE1 uses the Xtrans1 sensor. The output file is essentially the same.
So image IQ, character, and file weight will be nearly identical.
For a slowish wide lens like the 27mm the Xtrans2 is not worth the extra dough IMO.

I tend to agree w/ Andy. The only reason I can c to pick up a xe2, is if plan to either expand your lens lineup in the future or use legacy lenses. The better evf, peaking colors, af speed, and split image would be the things to consider.

The 27 is almost permanently attached to my xe1. It is used about 90% of the time on the xe1.

You're making a good call.

I have an xe1 and I was going to sell it when I got an xe2...then I compared them closely and I think the faster focus is probably in the xe2 but it isn't critically faster. The rest of the new stuff is only valuable if you use it and most of us won't.

Similarly, the 27mm is the perfect small lens for a small body like that...mine is almost glued to the body.

You won't regret getting this kit...and you can always add a lens or two later.

If getting an XE-1 and 27/2.8 is for leaving the lens stuck to the body all the time and never buying other lenses afterwards, getting a gently used X100 makes a lot more sense actually... you gain one F-stop for the same focal length and roughly the same price... and the X100 lens is better than the 27/2.8...

I had the E-X1 and didn't care for it so I traded it in. The 27mm is a fine lens and stays attached to my X-T1. I use it all the time.

I had an X100 once. It was great except no VF diopter adjustment. I tried to operate using my eyeglasses but was never comfortable. We're all different, explaining the multitude of choices we have.

Then you can switch the X100 finder to EVF for good and never use the OVF (which isn't accurate for framing anyway)...

The only way you can get a 3 diopter is with the X-Pro 1.

My bad. I didn't remember it having any diopter adjustment. Actually, the adjustment only went to +1, which didn't help me. The XE-1 goes to +2 which might be usable. Just so you know, I'm not faulting the X100, a great little camera.
