Finally broke down & bought an XE-1 w/27mm & 18-55mm lenses. Love the pictures, but I've got a problem - it's TOO SMALL! After 45+ years as a carpenter & with a bit of arthritis, I just can't get a solid grip on it. I've got a Thumbs-Up & an aftermarket grip & neither helps. Has anyone else had this problem? Any remedies? At this point, I'm thinking of trading it for an X-Pro1 which looks larger. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Getting an X-pro with a side grip is probably the correct answer, but ...

if you are crafty enough, you could make your own grip (large as you desire) from hardwood and paint it black (or jazz it up with stain).
I did that years ago for a Nikon and it served me well.

Something that has worked for me in the past with my M8 was to buy a leather half case for it. Not sure if one is available for your specific camera but if so it may help especially if it is of the type that has a bulge on the right hand side for an inbuilt hand grip. The advantage is that the thickness of the leather adds considerably to the thickness of the camera making it easier and more satisfying to hold. It would still be smaller than an X Pro 1 however so it may still not be big enough to satisfy your needs. In any event try eBay using the search term "xe-1 half case". And good luck.

PS another thing that might work is one of those finger loop thingies from Match Technical if they are still available. They attach to the right hand strap loop and you slip a finger into the loop to help hold the camera in place. I could not see them here so they may not be www.matchtechnical.com/Pages/Beep.aspx but you may find one on an auction site. However one is depicted in the first photo at the top of that page I linked above.

Photo also here but they are surprisingly expensive. (Although you might get one made for much less) http://leicastoremiami.com/products/leica-finger-loop-large-for-m-multifunction-handgrip

Get an Olympus XA and use it for a week. Then your XE-1 will seem like a right size camera:) My issue with the XE-1 is always inadvertently pushing buttons and changing settings. And I don't have "ham" hands or "sausage" fingers. The half case seems like a good idea, but it would be nice to have the optical finder the X-PRO 1 offers.

If I had the dough, I'd upgrade to the X- PRO 1.

At the moment I have both xe1 And xpro1 with side grips on each.
They really are not that much different in size with regard to right hand grip area.
Button spacing... sure the xpro has a bit better spacing but not by much.
Don't fool yourself into buying the xpro for a roomier ride. ;)

It's a great little camera. Either you will get used to it or not.
I would prefer it was larger as well but now that I'm used to it It's great just having all that image quality in a compact size.

Cheers!
